I think the essence of the movie plot is related to the hard times Romania was offering to its youngsters 15 years ago or more. Lots of places where mediocrity prevailed or meritocracy was something to dream of. As a youngster, you could look weird because you were thinking healthy. Or you could get appreciated but kept somewhere aside as a nice guy, not being able to make an impact and change things. Now we are living in other times. For people not living those times I imagine this movie makes less sense.
Now, how good was the movie in expressing artistically those times or how funny, that's a different story.
I think it looked as made by begineers. Characters could have been better shaped, better played, jokes could have been better, the image overall could have been better. Even if made by, let's say begineers, the movie could have been better by allocating more time to make it.
However, I am happy that Mircea (Bravo) made the movie, going past the youtube sketches and I hope they will get better and better. That's the bottom line.

Many people say bad things about this kind of material but they forget there's ''Entertainment material'' and ''Artistic Cinema'' in the World. This film made money because the creator has a large following on social media in Romania. I don't think it was intended to impress artistically. You don't see superhero movies winning Oscars. The same concept applies here with Mirciulica. And the same concept applied to ''Miami Bici'' and ''Teambuilding'' movies in Romania. So it is futile to comment on these kinds of material like it was supposed to be real Cinema. Real Cinema costs money and it is made by studied and seasoned artists.

Scroll at the end of the review for my final thoughts
"Mirciulica" it's 2022 romanian comedy, starring Mircea Bravo (yes I'm going to use his stage name), who's also producer, writer and creator of the two iconic characthers: "Bunica" - Elena Moldoveanu and "Mirciulica" - Mircea Po.... Bravo!
This is Mircea's first film, even he admitted that this movie barely scratched the surface of what he's capable of. And this sentence will transition to arguably the most interesting subject related to this movie: the reception I remember back in October that the movie was getting pretty high reviews. The critics thought it was fine, but the audience seemed to like this movie until you've seen some of the most negative takes on this movie. If you don't like this movie, that's fine: I got better things to do than get salty over some negative reviews. I can see where they are coming from: the movie is pretty bare bones, and Mircea still needs to improve his acting skills. But this movie was never supposted to be some reformal of cinematography, neither to be some award winning masterpiece. This movie is just a fine entertaining, mildly educational piece of filmmking, that even if it attemted to make something great, it would've been too big of a task. Honestly I feel like there's a cold mentality towards Romanian movies tha I'll like to address: 1. No, of course Romanian movies don't stand a chance against Hollywood movies, this is just hypocritical. Hollywood has a century old reputation. 2. No, Romanian actors are not as good as foreign actors. Most of them are beginners, and also some of them aren't actors to begin with. 3. Just because it isn't what you expected that doesn't mean that it's trash. 4. Raunchy adult comedies have been a thing for decades. It's OK if you don't find these movies OK. While I agree that many of these movies don't need cursing, not all moves have to be kid friendly either. Sometimes a darker, more edgy take on a general subject is what you need. Also many communist Romanian movies didn't have any profanity not because that was the writers' vision, but because of the regime.
OK, let's talk about the movie itself: -The story itself follows the maturization of our protagonist Mirciulica. He's naïve and clueless and clumsy, but good heated and hard working. The selling point of this movie is his encounters with different characthers, each time learning something new, building up to it's climax where he cracks and takes matters in his own hands. Unfortunately his journey feels akward since there's no clear smooth progression.
-Most of the time he's naïve and clumsy until the script needs to, kinda blocking the script from showing it's true potential. Also yeah.... Mircea Bravo is not great actor. He kinda reminds me of actors like Rowan Aktinson and Benny Hill, who exclusively play in comedies. And whenever the script got serious, their childish behaivour added to the emotional core of the moment, mostly because the writers know that these characthers aren't mature, real peaople. Their characters had unique likeable features that made them different but likeable. Mirciulica is mostly a regular dude, that's also completely parallel to the real world and feels like he has a lot to learn. His expressions and acting kinda lean towards a manchild type of guy, and let's not forget the akward situations he gets through. But besides that he's a regular dude. He doesn't have any unique personality traits and the script does not push his childish demeanour to it's limits. He's tehnicallly a regular dude that's naive and acts akward. And the biggest problem is that whenever he has to break his character, it fails because his acting is still weird and artificial, it doesn't feel genuine. But to be fair, the movie is saved by the supporting cast of characthers. Each and one of them has a clear role it the story that they accomplish perfectly. The movie's moral lesson and it's political discussions were probably the best part of it. It opens the discussions of multiple social dilemmas that they've discussed tastefully in my opinion. The characthers, while comedic, still leave an impact to this world, having sharp personalities and fun chemistry with Mirciulica. Also the other actors do a better job then the lead which to be fair I don't know if this is a compliment or not. My favourites were Dan Chiorean & Adrian Cucu (which he's also a Stand-Up Comedian, that's probably why) -The cinematography is unfortunately pretty boring and the soundtrack consists of royalty free music that something suits the movie, sometimes it doesn't.
-I give this movie a 7/10 because it tried to make something interesting, but also having the humility to only focus on it's few strengths, making for a not perfect but memorable experience, diving into social, political and moral problems but also being a fun, stress releaving feel good movie. I had a good time and I highly recommend for a group watch.

Loved the clever jokes and puns. It has great characters that work great together.
It also has some important topics : relationship with parents, the conflict between generations, old principles vs new principles, not so good vs good, innocence vs corruptions.
I felt that the whole situations was resolved a little bit too quickly and fortunate. Nonetheless Bunica is the real superhero of the movie. I was hoping to see more of her in the movie and explore a little more the connection with her nephew.
Overall good direction and it has a positive ending.
A great first movie from Mircea and the gang.

The movie feels literally like a longer and maybe better video quality of a random youtube sketch. The ideas of the characters were thought with no originality at all, everything is very stereotypical. Story line is very weak and it feels like this movie was thought in a weekend. The only reason this movie sells is because of the fame the youtuber and the grandmother has, no one should watch this movie otherwise. I normally wouldn't leave a cinema movie because i always want to give a chance to any movie and finish it until the end, but after finishing it i felt more blank than before, there is no important meaning or message this movie can deliver.

I think that all Romanians should see this movie. I don't want to give any spoilers, but I was truly impressed with the direction of the movie. Both adults and children will laugh a lot and enjoy it.
It is not a perfect movie, it has it's hiccups but there are no major issues. The acting is good, the characters are lovely and overall the storyline is believable. The main character has to face the real life and needs to make some tough decisions. The length of the movie is just right, I didn't even realise how the time passed.
It could've been just another cheap comedy but it was much more than that, good job :)

I expected more of this movie. It has such a bad plot.
It looks just like an extended clip of Mircea Bravo, not like a real movie. It seems that they put a very small effort into the plot. Everything that's going on in the movie is very predictable, it has no action, no twists.
The movie has some fun moments, but they are very few.
The acting is also very cheap, it's just Mirciulica's mother and boss that look more experienced. Mirciulica is just like in his videos, has nothing in common with acting.
Overall it's one of those movies I regret going to, even though I respect and support it's creators.

It was nice, but I expected more humor. His youtube videos are much better made. The actors were also a bit tense...as if they were for the first time in front of the cameras.
The most authentic and relaxed character was the boss. In the scene with Aurel Tamas, he exaggerated a bit and moved in an agitated mess... he should have slowed down a bit because it is assumed that he was a bit drunk.
The Gramdma offered authentic comedy like on youtube videos and she had great scenes.
But overall it was acceptable. I hope that the next film with the Wedding will be more professional and more natural.

Being native speakers, we enjoy watching Romanian films on a weekend with the extended family, and we've seen some wonky stuff over time, but this really took the biscuit.
Very thin plot, almost nonexistent, same as the production value, no acting skills to be found here, apart from the boss, and that's not saying a lot.
Nothing happens and does so very, very slowly. 0 out of 10, do not recommend.
Currently it's sitting at no. 1 on Netflix, probably from all the people clicking out of curiosity , but maybe that should say something about Netflix as well - after all, they paid money for this slow dumpster fire.

First of all, it is one of the few Romanian movies that is not made in Bucharest and people do not speak in Bucharest slang & accent. I truly appreciated the authentic Transylvanian language. Very refreshing! We need more.
While, I agree it's very similar to Mircea's youtube sketches, just way longer, it is just as relatable as they are. Yes, it is very stereotypical and I think that's the fun and the comic of this movie. Those who do not find it funny they either don't understand the slang (maybe Romanian subtitles needed?) or they identify too much with one of the characters.
I'm looking forward for the next movie.

I like most of Mircea's videos but this film was not good. A lot of people (mostly young) are looking up to him but this film didn't had a good massage ..or a meaning at all...Since when it's cool for a girl to swear like that? Disappointing...the tittle looked like it was written in paint, no graphics at all...also a really bad plot...Mircea's acting was horrible and the jokes were not funny (It seems that a swear is considered a joke this days). At the beginning it's written there "cu voia Domnului" but that one hour and a half it wasn't "voia Domnului" for sure with all those lines ...Noroc cu bunica ;)

Made an account just to leave my first review. The movie is definitely above average and has managed to create characters with personality, it has some funny moments, it does not go overboard with it. It has a good pace and its something to look forward to.
Their effort must be appreciated as the Romanian cinematography seem to have a bright future.
There are some improvements to be made: some actors do not manage to deliver in all scenes, the soundtrack is rather boring and uninspired and there are definitely some cringe and awkward moments.
But being their first long length movie, I can say that my expectations have been surpassed.
I wouldn't compare it to Teambuilding, even though their genre is the same, the main difference is that Mirciulica is trying to say a story and has a better writing while Teambuilding is just a funny movie.
Congratulations to both teams for bringing these two totally unexpected movies into our cinemas!

Unlike the Team Building competitor, this film has a small script and a logic that is supposed to be funny.
The problem comes from a rather thin script, as if written from copying some of Mircea Bravo's sketches. A 2-3 minute talcum powder video is funny, but 20 such scenes, one after another, not so much.
The characters have personality and would have deserved a better script and some real actors.
Instead, the proverbial slowness of the Transylvanian is the main characteristic of the film - the action advances slowly, the scenes unfold slowly, the logic is step-by-step and without jumps. That is funny itself.

By what means is this a good movie? Not a remarkable script, not memorable acting, at best maybe 2 decent jokes, lots of cursing, so this is not even close to being called a masterpiece (omg) or even a really good movie. Mediocre at its best, if this is what we can do.... we're doomed.
This is not even a movie about corruption, it has only a slight hint at "do the right thing". Granmda's role is a cash bringer only because many people really like her. The "love story" is there only to add some of that to the otherwise bland movie.
Mircea should stick to short scenes, he's really good at that.

This movies is absolutely fantastic! It has a very realistic approach and shows everything that could happen when you're a law student. I've felt almost 99% of all those things in my personal experience. My sincerelly congratulations to the producers! It actually hard to make a review when a personal experience lacks which could help you understand the epic part of this movie. Big like!
The actors use very fairhfull idioms and this improves the shows quality.
Good job Mirciulica. Keep up the good work!
Also tha cast is magnificent and good actors can demonstrate their talents.
It surely can make you day and is a good eficient comedy!

I've enjoyed it tremendously because of the local way of speaking and the fact that the lines were not translated from English (like in other Romanian films, like Teambuilding, or Taxi Drivers). Adrian Cucu's character is just bubbly and the way he delivers his lines shows that he's a theatre actor and knows how to have a proper pronunciation and intonation.
The plot is simple, but it has a logic (unlike Taxi Drivers, for example) and despite moving along slowly, it makes sense.
I liked the puns - they were hilarious!
What seems to have been lacking is the money so it's filmed better. But this is also an ever-present motive in Romanian filmmaking industry.
For me it was entertaining and I recommend it for a nice weekend movie.
