The Python

1 review
2/10

Hilariously Bad Christian Propaganda

A rural village in Nigeria is being tormented by a giant python, that has been consuming the god-fearing local people, and their livestock, whole.

The elders can't figure out where the thing came from- or what to do about it- but they fear they have upset the Gods.

A local witch doctor tells them that the python is the child of an ancient Goddess, sent from the divine realm to wreak havoc on the local populace. She is angry that they have forgotten her, and will not rest until they have ditched Christianity and established a cult in her honour.

However, there is only one way to truly be saved here...

This film is hilariously bad. It is essentially Christian horror propaganda, warning you about the dangers of turning to the old animist ways of thinking, instead of the teachings of the Christian God. For a film about a giant python, you'd think you'd see it for more than a few seconds throughout the entire film. But the whole snake thing is completely secondary to the message: "you better choose Christianity...or else...". The only redeeming value this film has, is that it makes you laugh: at the terrible acting; and culture clashing quotes, like: "when you beat a child, do you not pull him closer with the other hand". The only thing worse than the acting and storyline, however, are the transitions....which kept making me crack up (though they do work 1 out of 10 times).

2 out of 10, but that is being generous.
