Dominic O'Connor, a reporter from Atlanta, made a very big mistake, that cost him his job. Now he's in a small town full of kooks that drive him crazy.
Dominic ends up interviewing two oddballs who are all but inseparable. They hunt, they fish, and they have some interesting tales to tell, like how they caught a skunkape, and how they lost him.
Dominic O'Connor stumbles across one of the more morbid members of Kookville. Minnie is an ax wielding righter-of-wrongs in the local cemetery, and she enlists Dominic in her cause.
Dominic and his boss Susannah, who is in an unusually good mood, have drinks at The Stuck Pig and they discuss his future in Kookville, and his job at the paper. In the process, she learns why he ended up working for her.
