    Delightful, Heartwarming and Awakening

The animation of Rosemary A. D. (After Dad) is delightful, unlike anything I have ever seen. It made me immediately engaged in an extremely important topic.

The topic is heartwarming to see a Dad put his child high above his deepest emotions and consider her future as the utmost importance.

The film is awakening because it puts parental mental health at the forefront. People do not talk about it much. This film MAKES people talk by its unique and moving presentation. I think is it going to help many Moms and Dads who struggle with depression seek the help they need.

I am going to remember this film and recommend it to others. Grateful for this creation.

    fair

A fair perspective about fatherhood. A depressed man. The birth of his daughter. Dark thoughts, chain of hypothesis starting from premise of suicide and the life of girl after his death. Suppositions. And, the final decision.

Two basic virtues - the realism of situation and the drawings reminding school period. But, more important, the honest, direct, precise perspective about future of kid, familiar for each parent.

A confession , so admirable - wise crafted than it is very easy to say , as father, me too.

Because this makes this short animation, modest if you are preocuped by drawings, just great - the profound honesty. So, for so obvious motives, a masterpiece.

Writer/Director bares soul in this movie

Ethan Barrett bares his soul and gives us a deep glimpse into his innermost emotions surrounding life, death, and fatherhood, sharing emotions many of us have but are reluctant to share. The "how it was made" YouTube video shows the incredibly painstaking process he followed with each individual frame being hand-drawn and filmed. Also gives great insight into the emotion and construction of the film. The film leads you through a myriad of emotions as you contemplate life as a new parent and the overwhelming nature of the undertaking. What adds even more credability to the films message is the aspect of a family project created by Dad, Mom, and Rosemary.

Honest film about self reflection and family

This film by Ethan Barrett is a great film from a perspective that is seldom seen. We dive into the life of someone who might not be around anymore. And it's a unique perspective from that of the daughter seeing how her life would turn out without the presence of her father. What is so beautiful and charming is not only the crayon animation style which probably took thousands if not 10,000s of hours, but it is the story that is also being told. It is a morbid thought to think of your death and just think of how others lives will move on and you come to different realizations. In this one it gives you an honest perspective that's not too sappy or too overly dramatic. It's a sober look at life and post life, a story that would cause you to look at the life of your own. Definite Oscar contender.

I left this movie with tears.

I watched this at the ciff this year, I didn't know what it was about but I like the animating style

The way the director goes in INSANE detail about every scenario and every reaction there is to have and every emotion and just very accurately describes how it's like to want to not exist but doing it anyway cause life doesn't totally suck and the love is too strong, hanging on this very tiny light. It is amazing.

I wish the director could see how the whole audience was laughing and then going silent again and then tearing up and then clapping their hearts out after it was over.

I left with tears, very inspired and incredibly moved as an animator and storyteller.

Changed something in me, beautiful piece of art.
