Odesio Robles (Odie), a 25 year high school dropout and ride share driver is perfectly content with his life. He is always up for a good hustle and does whatever he can to provide for his niece and grandmother. Having gotten severely injured two years ago in an underground bareknuckle fight, he is ready to once try his luck in the pit. rent is due and he needs to make a quick buck. Elena Watkins (Laney), the daughter of a prominent family has returned to her home town to find her millionaire ex fiancée is looking to reignite their relationship by any means necessary. She has done a lot of growing up since she left for college and is no longer interested in a relationship with her ex.

After suffering the humiliation at the hand of his grandmothers sandal, Odie looks to make it up to her by running her errands. He meets Laney and is captivated though he fails to get off on the right foot with her. While at Tonea's (his girlfriends), restaurant he gets caught in a street brawl which serves to further impress Jack Hannah, a retired champion, scouting for new talent. While once he was contempt with his life, there's a chip on his shoulders that threatens to reveal itself.

In an attempt to make an honest buck, Odie finds himself driving truck which turn out to be full of illegal alien's who are in danger of suffocating while under his custody. An altercation with cartel chaperones ensue and he is forced to make a potential life altering decision. Dana is suspended from school for fighting and Taco seeks to affirm his identity.

Odesio has found work driving Laney's boat as she performs her research tasks. He proves to be a quick study and she is thrilled that his is able to help with some of the annotation and cataloging. Their professional relationship starts to form into a deeper friendship while at the same time Odie's relationship with Tonea starts to deteriorate. Sean's watches in the distance as Laney gives a Odie a friendly kiss and is furious. Reports of a botched human trafficking's incident come to light and Odie reveal to his grandmother that he had something to do with it.

Odesio and Elena's bond blossoms into a relationship. Tonea is broken hearted and Taco does his best to talk sense to his friend. Odie feel like he need to be able to provide for Laney the lifestyle she is accustomed to. He decides to take up Mr. Hanna's offer to become a professional fighter and set on a new path.

Odie and the team sets out on a mission to take on all challenges, taking on as many professional matches as he can, in as little time as possible. Mr. Watkins begins to display signs of trouble within his organization. During a home coming celebration Laney expresses to him that she's now being followed by her father bodyguard for her protection. Sean discovers the relationship and plots to take matters into his own hands.

Tonea confronts Taco. Momma Maria and Dana pay a visit to Odies brother in prison. Mr. Watkins suffers a devastating blow to his business. We get a deeper look at Frank Watkins and Alicio Romano's cartel and how they came into power. When presented with evidence that Odie was involved in the botched truck incident, he chooses to ignore it in favor of his daughters happiness.

After being brutally attacked in the streets Odie find his way to Tonea who attempts to talk reason onto him. The team is invited to train at the governors mansion in preparation for the championship match. Odies addiction to pain medication has become an inconvenience to those around him. Laney discovers the truth about her fathers business and how his life now in jeopardy.

In an effort to help bring the two families together and save her fathers life, Laney has agreed to marry Sean. Odie has not been able to make contact with her and is distracting him from his training. Raul and Jack Hannah bribe a doctor to hide evidence of a head injury so as to allow Odie to fight for the championship belt. Momma Maria and Tonea bond over laundry.

The night of the big event has arrived and Laney is not there for him. Taco reveals a terrible news which throws Odesio in a blind rage. Odesio is forced to evaluate his decisions and make an adjustment which lead to tragic consequences. If he stays and fights, what exactly is he fighting for. If he runs to her, who exactly is he running toward.
