FAQ

Madea's Witness Protection

FAQ

When Lockwise Industries CFO George Needleman (Eugene Levy) is set up to take the fall for a Ponzi scheme run by the Malone mob, it is recommended by his New York attorney Brian Simmons (Tyler Perry) that he and his family—wife Kate (Denise Richards), daughter Cindy (Danielle Campbell), son Howie (Devan Leos), and mother Barbara (Doris Roberts)—go into witness protection. What better place to hide than in the Georgia home of Brian's Aunt Mabel "Madea" Simmons (Tyler Perry), who takes no nonsense from anyone.

Madea's Witness Protection was written, directed, and produced by the film's principal actor Tyler Perry. Madea's Witness Protection is preceded by Diary of a Mad Black Woman (2005) (2005), Madea's Family Reunion (2006) (2006), Meet the Browns (2008) (2008), Madea Goes to Jail (2009) (2009), I Can Do Bad All by Myself (2009) (2009) and Madea's Big Happy Family (2011) (2011), and followed by A Madea Christmas (2013) (2013), Boo! A Madea Halloween (2016) (2016), and Boo 2! A Madea Halloween (2017) (2017)—along with an animated movie Madea's Tough Love (2015) (2015).

Think "pyramid scheme" where the higher-ups on the pyramid reap the benefits and the lower-downs end up losing. In a Ponzi scam, the first investors in a fraudulent enterprise reap the benefits of the money invested by later investors. It starts with with a person, a "broker", selling equity in capital assets that do not actually exist (or otherwise toxic assets) and then using the funds acquired from newer investors to pay dividends to the older investors as a sort of fake return on investment (ROI). In order to keep it going, the "brokers" have to keep roping in new investors and ripping them off, whilst hoping that no or very few investors seek to cash in by selling all of their shares back to the growing "brokerage". It's kind of like running up a credit card bill and then making payments on the bill by using another credit card, and then repeating the same process with even more credit card accounts, until no more creditors are willing to issue new cards.

While watching the movie Ghost (1990) (1990), George gets the idea of having Madea pose as Precious Jackson, withdraw the money from Jackson's account, and credit it to the 12 charities. Madea, George, and Jake travel to New York. and Madea successfully moves the money into 13 accounts, returning the Ponzi money to the charities, including Jake's (Romeo Miller) $114,000 investment from Pastor Nelson's (John Amos) church. On their return to Georgia, George is exonerated, learns that his bosses have agreed to testify against the Malone Family and that all charges have been dropped against him. Madea and the Needleman family make their goodbyes. In the final scene, the Needlemans make a stop at the Zion Church's mortgage burning ceremony, and Madea dances on her porch.

It's never revealed in the movie, but the assumption is that Madea set up a little account for herself.

Madea's happy dance on the porch is her celebrating the money from the 13th account.
