Zomervacht (Summer Brother) is a reverberating movie. It will play in your head for a long time. This wonderful debut movie can easily exist next to the novel of Jaap Robben. Joren Molter (director) knows what he's doing and manages to get everything out of the incredible set, the surroundings and his young actors. The images and location are awesome and rewarded with a golden calf for best production design (Florian Legters). Isabelle Kafando and Valentijn Dhaenens play a fantastic supporting role and both were nominated for the golden calf of best supporting role.
I am completely blown away by Brian (played by Jarne Heylen), who radiates emotions with just one look. He can determine and carry scenes just by the way he looks at you. We will definitely hear more form this boy. "Nobody loves me", he says. Well... whoever sees this movie, will easily adopt him and surround him with all the love in the world.
It is nice to see that Lucien (played by Joel In't Veld) really goes through life with disabilities. It makes the whole story more believable. It's great to see that the production of this movie opted for inclusion.
Zomervacht (Summer Brother) walks the thin line between drama (a lump in the throat, upwelling tears) and a subtle touch of humor (which keeps it all bearable). In short: a must-see!
