Tatiana Maslany is a Hidden Gem
A title that I had stumbled upon and never looked back. At first, I wasn't sure if I'd like the premise of the show since it wasn't really my cup of tea. However, there have been very few shows that have intrigued me from the very first episode to the series' finale. Ophan Black is one of those shows. Tatiana Maslany deserves every praise she receives from this show and then more on top of it. Her acting was diverse and extraordinary. Orhan Black would not be what it is had any other actor played the roles that Maslany did.
Tatiana Maslany should have been Emmy Best Actress in a Drama
As this series aired on BBC America, it seems to me it should have been part of the Emmy candidates. However I wonder about that since it received no mention and as a minimum, Tatiana Maslany's performance in the lead character role is one of the best ever in any media. Tatiana plays the multiple clones effortlessly. Whether American, British, Eastern European, anti-social, nonconformist, conformist, straight, LGBTQ I am never questioning the character. I was a fan and regular viewer of United States of Tara, but Tatiana's performance eclipses Toni Collette's. As I watched each week of the first season, I went from mildly entertained by her transformation to completely believing there were multiple actresses in the show. I would watch the opening credits thinking there were missing actresses! Jordan Gavaris is also great as Tatiana's brother. He brings just the right level of doubt yet support to the character. The story lines, settings, direction are also very good. As video science fiction, I think this is one of the best shows I have seen. It explores many different ethic and moral views - personal, scientific and social - with just enough creepiness to both entertain and make me think.
What a thrilling, fantastic first season
I watched the first season of Orphan Black in just two days. Yes, it was that addicting. Such a fast-paced first season as well, the thrills never stop, the twists and turns never let down. But what's most remarkable is Tatiana Maslany, who plays these various characters brilliantly. It's not just that she plays many characters though, it's how she does it, and how when you see a different one you can see the difference in characterization that she's able to give them. She honestly deserves to win the Emmy at this point, and I truly hope she gets the nomination. Still, the first season of this sort of reminds me of other shows' first seasons where the quality takes a drastic downturn. Something built like this in its structure certainly is always at risk of getting too outlandish or stupid, but thankfully this never did.
7.6/10. First two seasons were great, then it dropped in quality but not too much.
FIRST SEASON : 8,2/10
SECOND SEASON : 8/10
THIRD SEASON : 7/10
FOURTH SEASON : 7,5/10
FIFTH SEASON : 7,2/10.
ORPHAN BLACK is a very good sci fi tv show, overall. Yes, it dropped in quality after those two great first seasons but still, it is a tv show that every fan of this genre will enjoy.
The biggest positive here is of course is Tatiana Maslany. Maslany did the unthinkable : She was totally convincing playing all those characters, different to each other. I can't imagine any other actress who could possibly pull this off. I could recognize Sarah/Rachel/ Koshima etc EVERY SINGLE TIME without even doubt. Not gonna lie though, Maslany as Helena was not so successful, that was overacting and not that convincing. Yet, "Helena" was so likeable and interesting character that i was glad to watch her, even more than the other characters.
Acting is a strong quality here overall, there was not even one actor who didn't do a good job.
I won't say much in order to not give a spoiler. This is definitely worth of investing. Third season was kinda confusing, chaotic and messy but it got back on track in the 4th season which was very good. Fifth season has a weak start but the second half was good. Ending could have been better, still satisfying though.
Nice soundtrack. In general a pretty enjoyable even exciting tv show. A very good sci fi drama, with many intense moments, thriller at times with a successful comedic relief.

Binged every season in a day
Back in my uni days i used to binge every season in a day. This series is one of my favourite, and quite underrated. As for Tatiana Maslany, she's truly a remarkable artist, with a very few good roles for women on television, she plays all 9 of them. It's intelligent, dark, dramatic, mysterious, intense and humorous at the same time. Though each episode's duration quite long but, it never bores me.

- TriviaTatiana Maslany said in an interview that she has a continuity team that keeps her from mixing up the characters. For instance, if she's doing a scene that has both Alison and Sarah in it and she's playing Alison, if the script tells her to roll her eyes, they make sure it's an 'Alison' eye roll and not a 'Sarah' eye roll.
- GoofsCosima mentions in season 1 that Katja's fingerprints would be close enough to Sarah's that running Katja's prints through standard police search would pull up Sarah's rap-sheet. No one seems worried that Beth's fingerprints should have been just as similar, and as a police officer her prints would definitely be in the system. Why didn't Sarah's rap-sheet emerge when Beth applied to become a police officer? Why did the system match Katja to Sarah but not to Beth? The system may have matched Sarah to Beth, but other data would not have matched, such as date of birth, place of birth, parents etc. The match would have been seen as a false positive which often occurs in fingerprint matching systems. Even in ten-print matches, depending on what level of search was employed. In many systems, technician intervention is required to eliminate candidate matches.
