Exclusive: Mum producer Big Talk and Ray Donovan writer Sean Conway are to adapt Tade Thompson’s African noir novel Making Wolf for television.
The ITV-owned producer and the British writer are working on a drama adaptation of the book, which will be published by Constable in paperback in May 2020.
The book, from Rosewater author Thompson, tells the story of Weston Kogi, a London security guard, who returns to his West African home country and thinks telling people he works as a homicide detective is harmless hyperbole. However, he is kidnapped and forced by two separate rebel factions to investigate the murder of a local hero, Papa Busi. Solving the crime may tip a country on the brink into civil war and cost Weston his life.
Conway is to write the adaptation of the darkly comic, Kafkaesque story. He wrote all six episodes of Chloe Sevigny-fronted Sky drama Hit & Miss,...

Oscar nominee Chloë Sevigny and The Carrie Diaries star AnnaSophia Robb are set to co-star opposite Patricia Arquette and Joey King in the first season of The Act, Hulu’s character-based anthology series from Nick Antosca, Michelle Dean and Universal Cable Productions.
Written by Dean and Antosca and directed by Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre, The Act is a seasonal anthology series that tells startling, stranger-than-fiction true crime stories. The first season is based on Dean’s 2016 Buzzfeed article “Dee Dee Wanted Her Daughter To Be Sick, Gypsy Wanted Her Mom To Be Murdered.” It follows Gypsy Blanchard (King), a girl trying to escape the toxic relationship she has with her overprotective mother, Dee Dee (Arquette). Her quest for independence opens a Pandora’s box of secrets, one that ultimately leads to murder.

Neil Jordan isn't involved in "Hit & Miss," a six-episode UK series making its Us premiere on DirecTV this Wednesday, July 11th at 10pm -- he's got his own television project, "The Borgias," on Showtime. But "Hit and Miss" (create by Paul Abbott, of "Shameless) does feel a little like a creation patchworked together from pieces of Jordan's films -- a touch of "The Butcher Boy," a dab of "Mona Lisa" and, of course, a hefty dose of "The Crying Game." It brings together two types of characters he's shown an affinity for -- children and transwomen, four of the former and one of the latter united by the death of someone they all loved. The kids are siblings who range in age from six-year-old Leonie (Roma Christensen) to 16-year-old Riley (Karla Crome). They live on a smallholding farm in the Yorkshire countryside with a few chickens, some pigs and an uneasy relationship with their landlord.

"The lead character is a transsexual contract killer!"
This sounds like a movie pitch that would automatically be snapped up and subsequently made into one of the worst films of all time. The broadcast-network TV series that would be made from the same story idea doesn't even bear contemplating: The potential for leering exploitation and cheesy melodrama is just too extreme.
The accomplishment of the interesting "Hit and Miss" (premieres Wednesday, July 11 at 10 p.m. Et on DirecTV's Audience Network) is that it deftly navigates its minefield of a premise. The lead character, Mia (Chloe Sevigny) is indeed a coldly efficient killer, and she's also transgender, but first and foremost, she's a human being with flaws, an agenda and complex emotions that creator Paul Abbott ("Shameless," "State of Play") and writer Sean Conway spend a lot of time exploring. This show isn't about the premise, it's about the difficult person at the heart of it.

After the release of one of the highest-grossing British films in recent years last week with The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, we’ve got an entirely different selection lining the shelves this week with John Carter, one of the year’s biggest blockbusters, now available for your home entertainment.
And beside it, a critically acclaimed new Us series, Falling Skies, produced by none other than Steven Spielberg, which aired in the States last summer.
Not only that, but we have an excellent Blu-ray Steelbook re-release of Batman Begins / The Dark Knight, so needless to say, it’s a good week to be a Batman fan and/or steelbook collector.
My picks of the week:
Andrew Stanton’s John Carter & Kenneth Lonergan’s Margaret.
Falling Skies – Season 1.
And for good measure, the Blu-ray re-releases of Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins / The Dark Knight & Kevin Smith’s Mallrats & Ben Stiller’s Zoolander.

There’s something wonderfully incongruous about this tweet from Playboy mogul Hugh Hefner: “I'm taking my girls out to a movie tonight--Disney's ‘Brave.’ Their choice.” None of his fans took note (at least publicly) of the irony inherent in the octogenarian escorting a bevy of young women to a movie about an independent girl who doesn’t need a prince charming to rescue her. "The Amazing Spider-Man" is set to hit theaters on July 3rd, but the first reviews of the film are already coming out. Overall, they are very positive, but almost all critics feel that the movie could have been much better. The main issue is that "The Amazing Spider-Man" focuses so much on the characters that it becomes more of a relationship movie than a superhero action flick. One critic even said that it's a Spider-Man movie for the "Twilight" generation. However, many were quick to point out that there's still plenty of action to satisfy the fans. Reading the reviews, we also learned that there's a post-credits scene that sets up the sequel. So don't leave the theater when the credits begin rolling. * The Guardian: This Spider-Man is as enjoyable as it is impressive. (8/10) * Total Film: Spider-Man re-begins in style. (8/10) * The Telegraph: Packs plenty of testosterone, but Marc Webb's...

Chloë Sevigny, 37, was raised in Connecticut. At 18 she moved to New York and worked on teen magazine Sassy, which led to modelling work and an appearance in a Lemonheads video. Her first acting role was in 1995's Kids and in 2000 she was Oscar-nominated for her role in Boys Don't Cry. Her other films include American Psycho, Woody Allen's Melinda And Melinda, and Mr Nice. She won a Golden Globe for her role in the TV series Big Love and is the lead in Sky Atlantic's drama Hit And Miss, which starts on 22 May.
When were you happiest?
Last time I was on the dance floor – in Manchester a few weeks ago.
What is your greatest fear?
Something happening to my mother.
What is your earliest memory?
Being in the front yard, playing with violets, and my mother saying they were her mother's favourite flower.
