The upside down American flag seen throughout the deltas' journey has two significant meanings. It is used by the military as a signal of extreme distress and has also been a protest symbol used by antiwar protesters from the Vietnam War to the present. When you finish the game the flag has been flipped upright, signifying the end of distress.
