    Middle of the Road...

Bang Average unfortunately, It starts out well enough and the first half hour keeps us guessing to who and what is responsible but after the mystery disappears so does any horror element and the movie dissolves into nothing more than a generic action with ''creepy crawlies'' showing little tension from one choregraphed CGI ridiculous fight scene reminiscent of every modern Asian & Hollywood movie to date.

In the end we're left with yet another film we have all felt we've seen a dozen times or more but done better regardless of the quality of the CGI ( personally I thought it looked ridiculous ) over the past few years.

Its such a shame, I had hoped that this wouldn't turn out this way and should really had been a better film if it concentrated more on the horror and not the overly convoluted back story of the characters, there also seems to be a bit of a general layout these Asian movies go throughout that they all seem to play out very similarly.

That said what's going on in Hollywood far out weighs the Issues faced here.

Too many genres in one maybe

The film starts off with a suspenseful "who goes there style mystery" in which a creature reminiscent of The Thing stalks guests at a hotel. The plot gets weighted with a angsty teen protagonist, his deaf father, and a girl with a mysterious blood disease that the monster for some reason wants. The movie takes a hard turn quick with CGI centipedes covering the walls, the characters dying then being resurrected into monster fighting super saiyans only to die again... but then alive again.. I think. This movie is all over the place, but for what its worth me and my friends were entertained and had some good laughs. The main monster design is also fairly interesting. Good if you enjoy monster or creature flicks, bad if you are looking to watch Gone with the Wind or Oppenheimer.

A fun movie for bug lovers

The CGI is very good, although perhaps they went overboard in some scenes. In fact, the scenes done practical are less impressive. Set in a hotel with guests under COVID lock down, one of the guests has brought something back with them. And that is a problem, because everything has to be learned through the subtitles, and that means background and nuances are often lost. So it can become confusing. At first, there are only a few centipedes, but then suddenly there are thousands crawling over every area. And for me, it was difficult for me to become invested in any of the characters. But it was entertaining enough so I didn't feel cheated.

Was there a point to this storyline?...

Right, well I didn't have a clue as to what I was in for here, aside from "The One Hundred" being a Thai thriller. But I would deem this movie more of a horror movie than it was a thriller. But that is just a minor detail.

When I stumbled upon "The One Hundred" here, late in 2022, of course I opted to watch it, on account of it being a Thai movie that I hadn't already seen. And as I had never heard about it, prior to watching it, then I didn't know what I was getting myself into

Writers and directors Pakphum Wongjinda and Chalit Krileadmongkon managed to put together a fair enough script here. Yeah, it was pretty generic and straight forward, even for a creature feature. However, I have to say that the script was fairly weak, and "The One Hundred" does not require the audience to be overly alert while watching the movie.

The acting performances in the movie were fair enough, taking into consideration that the actors and actresses didn't exactly have the most layered script or character gallery to work with.

The special effects in "The One Hundred" were fair enough. Not spectacular special effects that will blow you away, but they served the movie well enough.

Now, what bothered me the most about "The One Hundred", was the fact that there simply was not point to the storyline. I mean, the movie came and went without leaving a lasting mark, and it was hardly a memorable or outstanding foray into the Thai horror genre. But there was just something hollow and lacking about the entire ordeal that is "The One Hundred".

While it was watchable, it is hardly a movie that I will ever return to watch a second time, nor is it a movie that I would recommend to fans of the Thai horror cinema.

My rating of "The One Hundred" lands on a three out of ten stars.

    This was a nice surprise!!!!

The One Hundred (aKa Creepy Crawly and The 100) is a 2022 horror film written/directed by visual fx artist Chalit Krileadmongkon (The Beast Below) and producer Pakphum Wongjinda (Serd, The Mirror, Possessed, and Video Clip). It was inspired by the story of Battambang which was told during the reign of King Rama V. It only grossed $18,261 during It's limited theatrical run.

A young woman (played by: Chanya McClory from Girl from Nowhere 2, Bad Guys, The Stranded, and Sang Krasue 2) who has just returned from a foreign country from being social media influencer. She has to stay at a hotel to quarantine, but then suddenly comes across a monster that can change its shape in a variety of ways, according to the individual that this monster possesses!!!!

This one was so much better than expected! I love me a good monster movie and Creepy Crawly mixes it well with the rarely used bug horror sub-genre. Creepy Crawly has excellent special and visual fx, that's what really stands out here. It delivers some quality gore and the monsters in this look great. It has a nice little small cast that includes Chanya McClory, singer Mike Angelo (The Misfits, Full House, and Wuxin: The Monster Killer), Benjamin Joseph Varney (After Dark and The Promise), and Kulteera Yordchang (The Bride of Naga and The Betrayal). The script had some holes but it was very fun and entertaining. Creepy Crawly had some solid suspense, tension, and thrills especially towards the final act here. This is one of the better We'll Go USA horror features of the year so far, RECOMMENDED!!!!
