“My Adventures With Superman” is an animated series that reimagines the classic Superman story, focusing on a young Clark Kent as he starts his journey to becoming Superman. It also delves into the early stages of his relationship with Lois Lane and his friendship with Jimmy Olsen.

Earlier this month, we were fortunate enough to sit down with Meg to learn more about how she approached the role across multiple DC projects. The actor also shared some fascinating insights into how she crafted the Tomorrowverse's take on the iconic hero and what she's enjoyed most about playing Supergirl.

When it came to casting the new Supergirl, DC Studios exec James Gunn went above and beyond before honing in on Milly Alcock to star in the upcoming film “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.”

Sources say Gunn and co-ceo Peter Safran flew multiple actors, including Meg Donnelly, to Atlanta for old-fashioned, onscreen auditions on the “Superman: Legacy” set. The actors also donned the Supergirl suit and boots, which is an atypical move in the superhero audition process (though Jamie Dornan once wore a makeshift Superman costume to his ill-fated audition for 2013’s “Man of Steel”).

Gunn first sparked to Alcock when he saw her playing Rhaenyra Targaryen in HBO’s “House of the Dragon.” But Donnelly made it a close contest and had the advantage of having voiced the role of Kara Zor-El/Supergirl in several Warner Bros. Home Entertainment’s animated films, including last year’s “Legion of Super-Heroes.”

Though they've made a fraction of the box office of even the worst DC live-action movie, creatively the crown jewel of DC Comics adaptations lies in their animated movies. It's through animation that the potential of comic book adaptations really shines. Ever since "Superman: Doomsday" was released in 2007, we've had movies that faithfully adapt popular comics storylines (rather than just borrow the name for brand recognition and throw the rest away), original films with wild concepts, and even movies that build on continuity like the biggest cinematic universes.

This is one of the most interesting aspects of the DC animated movies, because there are two proper continuities, each building up characters and storylines and exploring giant crossovers in a way DC has not come even close to figuring out in live-action.

For those unfamiliar with it, Crisis on Infinite Earths was a comic book crossover original published from 1985 to 1986 as a 12-issue limited series, with events spilling over into other comics. Comic book fans shouldn’t be surprised by Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’s plot, even though there haven’t been many updates or even a release date for the Dcu film disclosed.

Tom King wrote the DC Comics versions of the same name. He is one of the authors outlining the main plot of the DC Universe with Gunn, which will be adapted for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

According to Deadline, DC Studios are preparing to begin the testing process for the role of Supergirl in the DC Universe. In the mix are Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon), Emilia Jones (Locke & Key), and Meg Donnelly (The Winchesters).

Deadline’s report states that the Supergirl testing will take place sometime in the next month, with James Gunn definitely playing a part in the process. The character is set to take the lead of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, but there’s the chance she could make an appearance in another DC project, which is why the studio wants to sign an actress sooner rather than later. We all know how this process goes, so take this all with a grain of salt; while these actresses could wind up testing for the role, it could easily land in someone else’s lap.

Keith Giffen, known both as a comic book writer and artist whose characters have appeared in live-action franchises from Marvel and DC Comics, has died. He was 70 years old and had worked in comics since 1976.

Giffen was known for having a hand in the creation of characters including Lobo, Guardians of the Galaxy furry teammate Rocket Raccoon and the modern Jaime Reyes version of Blue Beetle. He also wrote acclaimed runs of “Justice League” and the “Legion of Super-Heroes,” as well as creating the cult fourth-wall-breaking character Ambush Bug (a decade earlier than Deadpool).

He died Sunday of a stroke, according to media reports (first reported by Bleeding Cool), but the news of his death wasn’t made public until Wednesday evening.

Keith Giffen, the veteran comics author and artist who co-created characters such as DC’s Lobo and the Jamie Reyes version of the Blue Beetle as well as Marvel’s Rocket Raccoon, has died. He was 70.

Giffen’s family announced his death on Facebook Wednesday via a sardonic post pre-written by the comic book writer-artist: “I told them I was sick…Anything not to go to New York Comic Con, Thankx,’ adding “Bwah ha ha ha ha.”

Keith Giffen, the longtime comics author and artist who co-created popular characters such as DC’s Lobo and the Jamie Reyes version of the Blue Beetle as well as Marvel’s Rocket Raccoon, has died. He was 70.

The next DC animated movie is titled Justice League: Warworld, and the official MPA rating has been turned in this week. The upcoming movie will be released with an “R” rating.

A series premiere, a long-awaited season return and a bevy of great movies are new on HBO and HBO Max this month. May 1 marks the series debut of “White House Plumbers,” the new limited series from “Veep” showrunner David Mandel that chronicles the Watergate break-in and fallout. That show airs on HBO and will stream on HBO Max. Then on May 4, the comedy “The Other Two” returns for its third season on HBO Max.

The sixth season of the animated series “Rick and Morty” will be available to stream on HBO Max starting on May 11, and in terms of library titles the “Men in Black” trilogy, the comedies “Step Brothers” and “Some Like It Hot” and Jonah Hill’s directorial debut “Mid90s” all come to HBO and HBO Max this month.

Wait a minute, you might be asking, isn’t HBO Max supposed to be “Max” now? How then, am I seeing a list of HBO Max new releases for May 2023? Well spotted, dear reader. Warner Bros. Discovery did indeed recently reveal that it would be rebranding its combined HBO Max and Discovery+ streaming service as just Max. As the company notes in its press release for May though, that change doesn’t take effect until May 23. What follows is a list of everything coming to HBO Max through May 22.

The biggest releases this month are two TV series that arrive at the beginning of May. White House Plumbers is a comedic take on the infamous Watergate scandal starring Woody Harrelson and Justin Theroux. That will be followed by season 3 of The Other Two, which I personally consider the funniest show on television. Catch up now before it’s too late!

HBO Max will officially be replaced by Warner Bros. Discovery on May 23 with a new and improved service called Max. However, that doesn’t mean the service is scrimping on content until then. One of the biggest new releases of the month is the new limited series “White House Plumbers,” which will premiere on May 1. Starring Woody Harrelson as E. Howard Hunt and Justin Theroux as G. Gordon Liddy, the pair portray two real-life Watergate burglars and Nixon saboteurs who ended up destroying the very president they desperately wanted to serve.

Long live the Legion!

Since early in their existence, I have been a diehard fan of the Legion of Super-Heroes, so I am immediately drawn to anything featuring them. The current Warner Animation release, Legion of Super-Heroes, certainly makes me smile—that is, when I’m not grimacing.

The film picks up on the current animated continuity so we have a Supergirl (Meg Donnelly), relatively new to Earth. She’s a headstrong teen still coming into her powers, and for some reason, Superman (Darren Criss), who already had the benefit of Pa Kent’s tutelage, can’t manage her. When Batman (Jansen Ackles) points out she’s a threat in her current condition, the Man of Steel decides she needs more help than he can give.

Studios that utilized theaters to boost PVOD prospects saw their efforts pay off this week. The 19.99 “Plane” (Lionsgate) and “M3GAN” (Universal) lead the VOD charts, followed by Christmas titles “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” (Universal/24.99) and “Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody” (Sony/19.99). With studios recouping 14 or more from each transaction, that’s a bonanza — especially with three of those films still in the box office top 10. Synergy at last!

Comic book artist Lee Moder, who co-created the Courtney Whitmore version of Stargirl with Geoff Johns in 1999, has passed away, according to ComicBook.com and statements from his peers. The web site cited a family friend, who indicated that Moder died quietly at home sometime on or before January 15th. No cause of his death was given. Moder was 53.

A TV series based on the Stargirl character ran for three seasons on the CW, ending last December. DC’s Stargirl followed Courtney and her stepfather Pat Dugan (Luke Wilson) as she leads an unlikely group of young heroes to take on the legacy of DC’s very first superhero team, the Justice Society of America. Johns served as showrunner, and executive produced the series with Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter.

Moder worked in the comics industry for nearly three decades. In that time he drew titles like Legion of Super-Heroes and Wonder Woman at DC.
