- Chen Jianxia, a girl who lived in a patriarchal environment since childhood, met the rebellious but kind-hearted little boy Li Ran at Zhenhua Middle School. He became the only light in Chen Jianxia's life. They redeemed each other, but unfortunately separated. Years later, at the moment of reunion, one realized that he had repeatedly fallen in love with the other. It turned out that one had never stopped loving the other.
- Chen Jianxia is a young woman from a small town, raised in a family with strong patriarchal values. Her mother constantly favors Chen's younger brother and places high demands on her, leaving Chen feeling misunderstood and under appreciated.
Her life begins to change when she gains admission to Zhenhua Senior High School, a prestigious school, and moves away from home. There she meets Li Ran, a fellow student who is wealthy and outwardly rebellious, but kind-hearted underneath. Though they come from very different backgrounds, Li Ran becomes a rare bright spot in Chen Jianxia's life: someone who encourages her, defends her, and gives her both friendship and emotional support.
Over the years their relationship develops - not always smoothly. Chen faces bullying at school, family conflicts, pressures of academic success (especially the gaokao / entrance exams), and moments when she must make hard choices about her future. Meanwhile, Li Ran also faces his own struggles (family expectations, responsibilities, guilt).
Eventually, circumstances force them apart: Chen Jianxia leaves school, her path diverges (studies, work, life), and their connection wanes. Years pass.
Now, they unexpectedly cross paths again. The reunion forces both of them to confront what they felt and what might still be between them. Chen realizes that what she thought was a renewed feeling may actually have never left her; Li Ran also reflects on his past feelings.
All These Years is a coming-of-age romance / drama, tracing the growth from adolescence to adulthood. It deals with unrequited love, longing, choices taken (or not taken), and how family, expectation, and social pressures shape one's life. Also emotional distance and reunion: what time does to relationships, how people may carry feelings without always acting on them.
