I loved the original when I was growing up, Frank and David had an undeniable chemistry and it was effortlessly funny. Statto was a great addition and it mixed football and humour really well.
I've just finished the sixth episode and whilst occasionally there are bits that are funny, it's rarely to do with them, more something random at a match that's happened. The two presenters have no chemistry whatsoever, I don't get how Matt still gets on tv, he's such an unnatural presenter, same as on bake off, he lacks that human element and just can't speak to people naturally, he just looks and comes across either awkward or arrogant. Ellis is just there, adds nothing remotely interesting.
Then in episode one that mensah guy claims he's there as a token hire, joking about race, but what's sad is he really is, he's unfunny, not a good talker and offers nothing of any value to the show.
The phoenix segments which they put their effort into are so painfully awkward and scripted it's just rubbish, seeing footballers trying to read an autocue naturally is cringe.
It's such an easy show to nail it's just ridiculous who they put in to do this. I mean you could easily have put in three talented comedians but this kind up is dead after one half season.
They also nearly got pulled for an impression I felt was a bit distasteful but really something you had to acknowledge in an impression. Strange show overall.
