Victoria Trofimenko moved the scene of events from Sweden, where the story by Torgny Lindgren "Hummelhonung" unfolds, to the Carpathians mountains.
The local woman who owned the highland house, where the movie was shot, was afraid that filming will not afford her to plant potatoes and gather the harvest. To calm her filming crew had to buy her 600 kg of potatoes.
One of the symbolic elements in film is the tile stove in Voitkos house. The tiles paintings tell the story of brothers' life: history of their grandfather who gathered honey, unless died falling in the pit. Two lions, two rams, sun and moon are symbolizing two brothers' opposition.
This is the debut feature film for the director Victoria Trofimenko, as well as for almost all actors.
It is the first film made mainly in the West-Ukrainian Hutsul dialect. The adaptation of dialogs was made by Hutsul dialect regular speaker, music producer Oleh Hnativ. He recorded his reading of the texts, so that the actors could learn the unusual sounding of the words. Viktor Demertash (Old Voitko) was unable to recreate the authentic local speech, so he had to be voice-overed.
