Billed as a “multi-levelled story with tension and twists at all turns”, Squatters is a debut feature from actor-come-writer Justin Shilton. Set in southern California, Squatters begins by showing the perspective of Jonas (Thomas Dekker) and Kelly (Gabriella Wilde), two grimy young homeless teens.
Opening scenes of Kelly and Jonas fretting over scoring weed, rooting through dumpsters and shop-lifting are supposed to elicit sympathy but do little to arouse any form of empathy for lead characters’ situations – especially after the self-indulgent slowed-down beach party scene. “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure my friend – especially if that man is a rich prick,” jeers Jonas, again doing little to improve his likability.

Today sees the DVD and digital release of Squatters, a straight to video release by director Martin Weisz. The film follows a couple of homeless drifters, played by Gabriella Wilde and Thomas Dekker.
When they hear of a family who are going away on vacation, they move into their home, intent on making as much money from the property as they can before the owners return. The family, however, come home early… Squatters also stars Richard Dreyfuss as the man of the house, a welcome appearance by an actor who seems to be spending less time than ever on-screen. Dreyfuss, however, is a talented actor, with many memorable roles on his CV. Here, we take a look at six of the best.

Imagine this: You go away on holiday, but things don’t go according to plan. So, you go home early. When you arrive, however, it turns out your empty house isn’t quite so empty… This is the plot of Squatters, the latest film from film by director Martin Weisz, available this Monday on DVD and digital download.
A frightening premise, to be sure, but there have been several other, arguably scarier, films revolving around home invasions. Here we take a look at six of the best.
Panic Room (2002)
David Fincher’s 2002 thriller didn’t get the acclaim of some of his other films, but he certainly put his heart and soul into it. With as many effects shots as any summer blockbuster, Fincher’s movie is an underrated gem, the rare film that instils a genuine sense of unease in its audience. Second choice lead actress Jodie Foster puts...

With Cate Blanchett in negotiations to play the evil stepmother in Disney’s re-imagining of the classic fairytale Cinderella, Untitled Cinderella Story, the studio has begun narrowing its search for the title character.
The three foreign-born actresses that will reportedly soon be testing for the role are already established Irish teen thesp Saoirse Ronan (The Host), Alicia Vikander, the lovely Swedis-born actress from A Royal Affair and Britain’s Gabriella Wilde (The Three Musketeers) who has signed on to play the role of Sue Snell in Carrie remake.
Chris Weitz (About a Boy) wrote the script and Simon Kinberg (X-Men) will produce Mark Romanek’s live-action adaptation. Aline Brosh McKenna wrote the initial draft and Disney set the project up in the wake of its success with Alice in Wonderland in May 2010.

Fans are still up in arms that The CW canceled The Secret Circle on May 11 and now star Thomas Dekker is opening up, for the first time, about the show's passing.
I caught up with Thomas on the set of Squatters, a dramatic new film very close to his heart (but more on that at a later date), when talk naturally turned to Secret Circle. And while Thomas was sad to say goodbye to the cast and crew, he wasn't exactly torn up about losing the job.
TheInsider.com: How did you find out about the show's cancellation?
Thomas Dekker: I actually found out the show was canceled the first day of filming on Squatters, so I feel very lucky to have something to jump into. I admire and am very grateful for the season I got of that show because I worked with such an incredible cast, but I never really felt the show and...

Rising starlet Imogen Poots has joined the film adaptation of Nick Hornby's novel "A Long Way Down," which has Pascal Chaumeil at the helm. She'll star along side Toni Collette, Pierce Brosnan and Emile Hirsch, who previously joined the tale of four disparate individuals who meet one another on a London rooftop on New Year's Eve, all with the same intention to commit suicide. Instead of jumping, these complete strangers make a pact to stay alive and stay together until at least Valentine's Day. Lensing begins this September in London from a script by Jack Thorne, whose debut film "The Scouting Book For Boys" earned major praise. [THR]
