    Manufactured drama and cheesy dialogue

This is so bad. Not thrilled I bought the whole season. I haven't checked the writing credits, but it's no where near where the previous seasons were. I'm embarrassed watching this during the dinner and then the following scene. It is now a sad, cheese ball soap opera. Most of the actors are doing what they can, but the laughing at dinner and pretty much everything Beth has to say is so contrived. Beth's sass is more impactful when it's applied sparingly. But when everything she says is inflammatory, you just can't take her seriously anymore. Hoping this turns around and moves away from straight drama back to engaging storytelling.

    Why The Hate?

First of all, I don't get the hate for this one. Not one bit.

After all the plotting, killing, and politics of late this episode is refreshing. Bang in the centre of it is a gentle (too gentle for some?) reminder of what the show is about: Family & the Montana way of life.

The fight I thought was a brilliant metaphor for change vs tradition. Beth talking of eating meat etc and Summer's admittance that her parents were vegetarian and she had never tasted meat. Again, a gentle dig/reminder that a lot of our values are merely hand-me-downs from our parents - that applies to Beth too. All she's known is ranch life = meat etc. I know that's a generalisation, but it serves as an example of what my interpretation of this episode is about.

This episode basically stops the whole season in its tracks and makes us remember the roots of the show - ranch traditions.

All in all a great episode and as always, the acting, writing, and production is stellar.

    Is this wwe?!

Beth is absolutely the worst Way too much dialogue that means nothing The show use to be entertaining Now it's the same thing over and over - Beth is trying to fight someone in every episode Is this getting old to anyone else ?

Honestly what was this episode about ?

Beth fighting and And And Come on We don't tune in for a wrestling match Bring back the good story lines like that of seasons 1-2.

They wasted this entire episode talking about a ride that is going to last (2) days I literally summed up the episode in one sentence.

This is the best the writers can do ????

The next episodes need to be epic in order to make up for a lackluster season 5.

    Everything wrong with this episode

First of all, the girl fight was ridiculous. Beth gets a tooth knocked out and instead of one of the richest people in Montana going to the dentist, she goes for a two or three day roundup. They just had a Governor's election so it should be November or December, but they are going on a roundup in Montana. Where's the snow? Where's the cold weather? They are going to "cold camp"? What is that? They can't take cots or sleeping bags? They can't fly the Yellowstone helicopter up to the campsite and dump of load of provisions or food? Not one of the cowboys can lead a pack horse with provisions? Instead are they just going to eat beef jerky for two days? It seems Beth is always on the go, in meetings, going to bars, driving her car to Helena, but she suddenly had time to take 3 days off so she can "wrangle"? I don't even care about Kasey, his wife or Jamie this season. Very boring writing. Poorly directed as well. Also it just seems unbelievable that a newly appointed governor can just take 3 or 4 days from the office, cancel all his meetings and be out of phone range up in the mountains, while his state has no one governing it. Plus the fact that the entire crew of wranglers have to just sit on their horses and can't make a move until John Dutton makes an appearance and gives his little speech. Can't a few of the wranglers just mosey on ahead to scout out the area. Just silly writing.

    A hit in Australia

This episode was talked about feverishly on Radio the day after airing.

Everyone loved it. The clash between Vegan angry and Just Plain angry, was something to see.

Rip's patience & understanding of his wife's personality is wonderful to watch. John's appreciation and insight of his children's personalities was so special.

It is great to see how much Carter and Tate have grown in size & maturity.

The epic ending to this episode when they all line up at the break of day and listen to John telling them what to expect over the next 2 days and the 'spike camp' they will have to endure at night, to bring the cattle down to the yards for branding, is momentous.

Then almost as an afterthought John says 'Yeehaw'.

I love this show and have done since the first episode.

Anything Taylor Sheridan has a part of, turns to Gold. I do not want to be in his mind with all the ideas and thoughts he must have.

    • Trivia
A spike camp is defined as a temporary or secondary campsite that is some distance away but accessible from the main camp. The original meaning of the phrase referred to deer hunters that wanted to be in prime areas at daybreak without requiring to break trail by moonlight and risk spooking game. Spike camps are established on foot, so gear and supplies in a backpack can be easily carried. The spike term itself refers to any deer at least a year old that has two hardened antlers that do not branch or fork.

Summer supposedly has been a vegan all her life but she sure has no earthly idea how to peel a potato.
    • Quotes

John Dutton: [to Rip] You know, I always thought Beth would calm down as she got older. But every year it seems like she gets wilder. I've never seen anything like it. What it must feel like to be that free. You know I've got one child I miss, one child I pity, one I regret... But that girl... That child I envy.
