BOOM! Now that's what I call an episode!

The cliffhangers in part 2 of season 5 have been some of the best of the entire series. A lot was lost when Kevin Costner left, but this did not affect the quality of the writing, the characters, or the acting. The writing this season is top notch and is even better than some past seasons. It's as good as the writing was in the very first seasons. Phenomenal!!! All of the writing surrounding the loss of John Dutton has been awesome and I really like how the writers have handled all of that. It could've made the show worse, but instead it's created a dynamite plot. Thoroughly looking forward to the remaining 3 episodes!!!

The plot barely moves. We barely watch.

Do they really expect me to believe where they say the story is going? Beth sitting on a porch saying her father left her no choice but to sell to the highest bidder? It's like they forgot the whole scene when Kevin Costner was still alive where he planned to give the ranch to the Native Americans. "This is how I keep it whole" is what he said.

Now I have an episode with Beth on a porch with the Chief, and neither one of them knows how to make it work? Really? Jon Dutton made it so that it was easy, now, what will we do?

We all know the Native Americans are going to get the ranch. Why have the dog and pony show just to drag this out for five more episodes. They could have wrapped this whole season up in three episodes. Horrible writing.

This should have been 1st episode back

The season renewed at episode 8. This is # 11 and it is the fiery one back that had a point and a plot. It should have been the forst episode back and built from there. Especially since the prior 3 episodes were filler nonsense that had no valuable content besides trite cliches trying to politicize western family soprano life in feathered and flowered words. And to be honest we're not as prions as they thought they were.

And to be honest, this plot turn should have happened season 2 or 3. The season after season of Duttons win with zero consequences got really old. And was beating a dead horse from season 3, 4 and 5.

Kayce Suddenly had 5 seasons of growth in 1 episode after 5 seasons of near no development. Yet was entertaining and showed that he could have been a true center of the show.

Beth is just as wretched as the very episode. Nothing seems redeeming in her character to rally around.

Jamie is a cowardly worm. Not sure what the point is for his character as all. He just a wimpering kid in very episode.

Hoping they find a point and follow it.

    The succession

After some more awkward "old" (taking place several weeks earlier) scenes including the presentation of John Dutton's murder, this episode settles down to the political maneuverings and crime investigation that follow the governor's death.

Structurally, one is reminded of the recent super-hit "Succession", but that series was built around an amazing amount of original black humor, and a cast of complex, screwy main characters. In "Yellowstone", the death of a patriarch, leaving three adult children dealing with the preservation or elimination of his title empire, has more clear-cut good guys and bad guys, with Jaymie the pitiful weakling.

The Native Americans are poised to contribute in some major way to the final story resolution, but it is left unclear exactly how. My favorite brief scene has Kayce and Mo Brings Plenty gazing out at the Yellowstone landscape and pondering its fate -will it remain pristine or become commercialized? The segment builds to a "surprise" ending, but because I didn't doze off during key moments it was quite obvious to me which character was about to meet their maker.

WOW amazing from start to Finish

This episode was so amazing from beginning to end with Casey being a major focal point of the episode in the beginning, Beth at her best and Jamie "wow" omg !!!

At first, I did not like the flashback and flash forward aspect, but it was perfectly an amazingly done in this episode. The best episode of all season the season at first had me very skeptical and upset but now I am like I'm pins and meals to see what happens next And if you watch this episode, you know exactly what you're waiting for at the end. Great job guys.

I'm very happy that This episode was done the way it was done and can't wait till next week.

    • Trivia
For the international audience, the fourth amendment, as mentioned by Senator Perry, refers to the Fourth Amendment of the United States Constitution, which is in regards to "Unreasonable Search and Seizure..." , which usually applies to entering a residence without permission unless a court order is provided, but based on the verbiage it could apply to eminent domain issues as well.
    • Goofs
There were no guards inside the Governor's residence. There is no state in the entire United States in which a sitting Governor does not have personal security inside their residence along with other staff. The loss of power to the CCTV ( Closed Circuit Television, a video surveillance system that uses cameras to send signals to a limited number of monitors. ) system in a Governor's residence would be augmented by a backup power supply. The assassination plan pursued in this case would have been rendered impossible by those facts.
    • Quotes

Kayce Dutton: I have to choose. Choose between my family and the ranch.

Mo Brings Plenty: Don't seem like much of a choice to me.

      Kayce Dutton: Me, neither.

      [pause]

Kayce Dutton: I don't know what it means. Choose how? Choose when? Choose... what?

Mo Brings Plenty: You're not supposed to know yet. When the time comes, you'll know. And it won't feel like a choice at all. It'll feel like fate. You'll see it and you'll smile 'cause the choice will be so clear.
