If you're reading this and are on the fence about this show, read this and please watch the series.

I won't spoil this, so if you have not seen the show and are wondering why this has a 9.4 rating (as of September 2023), I hope this review can do justice.

Up to this point in the series, there have been some crazy fights, great character development, and some moderately intense moments. But with this episode, everything goes more than south. In a matter of moments, everything you thought you knew about the show gets thrown out the window, and reality kicks in with no warning. It's so bleak and devastating, culminating in one of the best scenes I have ever beared witness to. The way the original soundtrack, audio design, and animation all come together is so perfect it has to be seen to be believed.

I envy the people who have not seen this yet, because it is such a bleak, brutal, and in some ways, absolutely gorgeous episode. It will stun you, genuinely upset you, and leave your jaw on the ground by the end. The second half is beyond words.

And we're only scratching the surface ...

Would give this a 9.5 if I could, and I really was not expecting the episode to be as good as it was. These chapters of the manga were good but Mappa's artistic direction elevated them to another level so well it's impressive.

It would take too long to praise all of the great moments that occurred throughout this episode in a single review. So, I would just like to recognize how genius Mappa is for choosing to split the episode into the first calm, slice of life type half and then decide to suddenly switch gears abruptly into something much more sinister and dramatic in the second half. Despite that first half being calm and much less eventful, I really do feel it made the episode a little bit better just because it allowed the second half to seem that much more chaotic.

The episode is already rated a 9.6 on here and as a manga reader I'm just gonna assume IMDb is gonna have to let their ratings go past 10 once future episodes get adapted because this one was only scratching the surface of what's to come. Seriously, this episode isn't even gonna be anywhere near a top 10 episode of the show by the time the entire manga gets animated (which it hopefully does).

Really good episode though. Praise Mappa - they're going so incredibly hard with the animation for no reason.

Not a perfect show, but this is a perfect episode

Sitting here after finishing this episode in total shock. Episode 1 of Invincible levels of shock. This took everything I knew about the world, the pecking order, and the distribution of power, and flipped it on its head. Absolutely bonkers that an episode like this is buried rather deeply in the season, but they've done something clever here. They spent the first 7 episodes lulling you into a sense of relative understanding of the world, only to increase the shock of seeing your hero's utterly outmatched.

Definitely not a perfect show by any stretch, but this might be the perfect episode oe for this show - if you catch my drift.

Hits you like a Japanese bullet train.

Man o' man, this episode was so unexpected and crafted perfectly, it is on par with 'Hero' episode from attack on titan, if not better. The tension, character depth, dialogues and emotions were super high on this one. I almost don't feel sleepy now despite being it being 1 am, that's how much adrenaline it pumped. Chainsaw man surely is the next big thing if MAPPA continues this kind of top tier animation. The power, the mystery and the premise makes it a concoction of brilliant recipe only few can savor.

Most of the characters are likeable and the dubbing team did a terrific job. Soundtrack is wow too.

    I don't watch Anime

I have seen little to no Anime in my lifetime, let alone watching a series week to week but this show has been absolutely fantastic. The characters are all interesting, and the world is mysterious and keeps you wondering what is going to pop up next. This episode in particular was absolutely perfect writing. I don't read the manga so everything was a total surprise. I have no idea where it is going to go from here but I am ready for it.

If the show keeps up the pace that this episode has set, we are in for a real treat. This is not just a great anime but a great show in any genre.

    I cannot wait for Tuesday.

Denji: Ms. Makima, I... My first kiss turned out really shitty. Even if I kiss a bunch of girls from now on, am I gonna remember the taste of puke every time?

      Makima: Open your mouth.

[Makima takes her lollipop off her mouth and puts it in Denji's]

Makima: I doubt you'll ever forget how that puke tasted. But it's okay, because until you die, you're going to experience a lot of new things. And you won't have time to think about vomit. As for your first indirect kiss, looks like it tastes like a Cola-flavored Chupa Chups.
