A modern masterpiece

I was expecting a film about a French officer who is captured by the British in the Napoleonic wars but this was a nice surprise. I loved the part where Eric Clapton fought Layla St Ives on Mustafa over the rights to use his song as the main menu theme. That's one of the best western film moments of all time. A second favourite was Layla communing with the statue of Oliver Cromwell for the right of passage into 'The Swan and Angel" Wetherspoons.

It was the best film ever I've ever watched beginning with the words "The Soul of St Ive". I'm only disappointed that the disc case wasn't made in St Ives Cambridgeshire, just like Merlin: A Servant of Two Masters.
