Aminah Nieves and Cole Brings Plenty had ended the first season of 1923 with new opportunities for their characters, Teonna Rainwater and Pete Plenty Clouds, and their blossoming love story.
The first season of the hit Yellowstone prequel series was a breakout one for Nieves as it tracked her Indigenous character, Teonna, and her epic journey escaping a 1923-set Indian assimilation boarding school run by the Catholic Church where she was abused.
After everything she endured, the season ended with her reuniting with her father (played by Michael Spears) and beginning to fall in love with the son of the man who helped save her, Pete Plenty Clouds (played by the late Cole Brings Plenty). Her final scene featured the three of them riding off to Wyoming in hopes of escaping the priest (Sebastian Roché) and other men who are now hunting her in season two, which returned after two years on Sunday.

DreamWorks Animation’s “The Wild Robot” swept the 50th Annie Awards on Saturday, winning nine major awards and solidifying its position as a frontrunner in this year’s animation race. The film’s remarkable performance at UCLA’s Royce Hall was briefly interrupted by an unexpected fire alarm but continued without further incident.
Director Chris Sanders’ animated feature won in every category for which it was nominated, matching Pixar’s “Coco” as one of the most successful films in the awards’ recent history. Lupita Nyong’o claimed the voice acting award for her performance as Roz, the robot protagonist.
The evening’s second major success was “Flow,” an independent Latvian animated film. The movie won Best Independent Feature and Best Writing, adding to its growing reputation in this year’s Oscar competition.

“The Wild Robot” was the big winner at the Annie Awards on Saturday evening, winning nine trophies at the annual ceremony that honors the best in animation as chosen by the Los Angeles branch of the International Animated Film Society, Asifa-Hollywood.
The DreamWorks Animation and Universal release dominated a ceremony that was at one point interrupted by a fire alarm that caused Royce Hall to be evacuated. It won Best Feature and also took awards for direction, FX, character animation, character design, music, production design, voice acting and editorial. It went into the show with 10 nominations and won in every category in which it was nominated, with its only loss coming in the voice-acting category, where one “The Wild Robot” actor, Kit Connor, lost to another, Lupita Nyong’o.

Disney villains can be as popular as the heroes, but there are still many great villains from throughout the years who deserve more appreciation. Many of the best Disney villains ever, like Cruella, Ursula and Scar, have fans of their own, and people watch their movies just to see them in action. Not every Disney animated movie needs a great villain, but they often add another layer for fans to appreciate.
Good Disney villains, like any good movie villains, need to highlight the story's themes and reveal truths about the main characters. Disney villains tend to stand out with their flamboyant visual designs, and a memorable musical number can also help. Ultimately, not all Disney villains get the love they deserve, either because their movies aren't too popular, or because they don't exactly fit the mold.

In October 2018, the C.S. Entertainment One, which had rights to a planned fourth Narnia movie, also joined the project. Mark Gordon, Douglas Gresham, and Vincent Sieber were named as executive producers.
By June 2019, Netflix brought on Matthew Aldrich, co-writer of ‘Coco,’ to oversee the creative direction of the adaptations. Then, in July 2023, Greta Gerwig was announced as the writer and director for at least two ‘Narnia’ movies.

Moana 2 and Inside Out 2 made 2024 an incredibly successful year for Disney, yet raised the bar impossibly high for the studio's next animated movie. Beginning with Inside Out 2's box office numbers, the film broke numerous records after its release in June. Inside Out 2 became the highest-grossing animated movie in history, surpassing 2019's The Lion King by earning a worldwide box office total of almost $1.7 billion and becoming one-half of Walt Disney Pictures' overly successful year.
Moana 2's box office total is not quite as high as Inside Out 2's, but the film proved more successful than first thought. The film has earned just shy of $1 billion worldwide and is expected to cross the coveted milestone before its theatrical run concludes. When it does so, 2024 will be solidified beyond all doubt as an immensely successful year for Disney. Although the studio will be pleased by this,...

On a cool November evening in New York City, a swarm of hundreds of drones gracefully buzzed over the Hudson River, taking shape above a darkened ship floating in the water.
What followed was a veritable procession of Walt Disney Co. intellectual property, paired with music from Disney classics. The drones formed one character or scene after another, including the genie from Aladdin, Madame Leota from The Haunted Mansion, and Dante from Coco.
Finally, as Moana’s “How Far I’ll Go” played over the sound system, the drones formed the Heart of Te Fiti over the ship, and the vessel’s lights flickered on. In a grand finale, the drones formed a popping champagne bottle, and the voice of Disney CEO Bob Iger officially christened the Disney Treasure, the newest cruise ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet.

The best cartoon girl duos have ensured that generations of young women fell in love with animation as a medium. What’s more, pairings of female characters also account for some of the most iconic presences in cartoons and animation of all time. While male duos and boy-girl teams in cartoons are common, the world of animation is surprisingly light on pairs of female characters. Girls in cartoons tend to come in trios, groups, or on their own. However, this only ensures that the very best cartoon girl duos stand out.
Whether it’s classic characters from shows like The Flintstones or Scooby-Doo or pairs of heroines from animated movies from powerhouses like Disney or Pixar, each of the best cartoon girl duos brings something unique. The recent buzz around Disney World has been focused on the beloved “Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros” at Epcot, with headlines suggesting a farewell to Donald Duck. However, let’s set the record straight: this isn’t the end for Donald Duck or his friends; it’s merely a refurbishment.
It’s a Refurb, Not a Permanent Closure…
The Gran Fiesta Tour, nestled within the vibrant Mexico Pavilion of Epcot’s World Showcase, is indeed closing for refurbishment starting January 6, 2025. This isn’t a cause for alarm but rather a sign of Disney’s commitment to maintaining the quality and excitement of their attractions. The closure is expected to last until at least mid-March, aligning with Disney’s strategy of scheduling major refurbishments during the quieter months of January and February, when park attendance typically dips.

An expert on The Shining debunks one of the biggest myths from the making of the Stanley Kubrick horror classic. Released in 1980, the Stephen King adaptation hasn't just become one of Kubrick's most iconic films, but one of the most iconic horror movies ever made. The Shining, which stars Jack Nicholson and the late Shelley Duvall, has become almost as well-known for what went on behind-the-scenes as what ended up on-screen, with tales of Kubrick's exacting directing style now the stuff of legend.
In a recent interview with ComicBook.com to promote the release of his new two-volume book, Stanley Kubrick's The Shining, author Lee Unkrich debunks a popular story about the film. The story claims that Kubrick had Duvall do 148 takes of the scene in which she walks up the stairs swinging a baseball bat as Jack advances toward her. Fresh off of its record-breaking four Golden Globes nominations – the most ever for an animated film – “The Wild Robot” has officially taken the lead in the Best Song race at the Oscars. An impressive 100% of our editors and 96% of experts think the standout track “Kiss The Sky” will be nominated come the official announcement on Jan. 17, according to our current combined odds.
At the beginning of the month, “Emilia Pérez” led the category with “El Mal,” but the acclaimed track from the animated movie has been gaining momentum just as awards season kicks into full gear. “Kiss The Sky” is performed by Maren Morris and written by the team of Delacey, Jordan K. Johnson, Stefan Johnson, Morris, Michael Pollack, and Ali Tamposi.
The song is not only a beautiful anthem of self-empowerment and facing fears, but it also serves as one of the emotional high points in a pivotal scene in the film.

Though Venom: The Last Dance performed a lot better than previous Ssu movies Madame Web and Morbius, it still ended up finishing its theatrical run as the lowest-grossing film of the Venom trilogy.
The Kelly Marcel-directed superhero flick took in just under $140 million domestically and another $333 million from overseas markets for a global total of around $472 million. With a reported budget of around $120 million, this is far from a bad result for Sony Pictures, but it doesn't come close to the $850 million the original Venom made in 2018, and also falls just short of Let There Be Carnage's $500 million.
This was Sony's final Venom movie (supposedly), but the studio is rumoured to have big plans for the villainous Knull and Agent Venom.

When Ivy Queen took the stage at Carnegie Hall in November, she knew she was about to make history as the first reggaeton artist to ever play the storied venue — but the gravity of the moment didn’t fully hit her until a few songs in. She’d been in the middle of performing some of her biggest hits — classics like “Quiero Bailar” and “Te He Querido, Te He Llorado” — when she looked out in the audience and saw a sea of women screaming along to every word. “I was...

Only Murders in the Building also had a strong showing, hitting a season high of 599 million minutes of viewing on Hulu for the week of its season four finale. The 599 million minutes is the show’s second-best week to date, behind only the season three premiere in August 2023.

Moana 2 is enjoying a historic adventure at the box office, where it has shattered record after record since its launch Thanksgiving eve.
Heading into the holiday, Walt Disney Animation’s sequel was tracking to open to an already huge $125 million to $135 million for the long five-day weekend (Wednesday-Sunday). However, the music-infused family film served up a magical $225 million for the five days, including $139.7 for the three-day weekend, thanks to the pent-up demand to witness the continued adventures of the fearless Moana, voiced once again by Auli’i Cravalho, and the demigod Maui, likewise voiced again by Dwayne Johnson. Final numbers are up from Sunday’s five-day estimate of $221 million and three-day estimate of $135.5 million.
The Thanksgiving menu also included Universal’s record-smashing Wicked and Paramount’s Gladiator II. The trio of films resulted in the biggest Thanksgiving of all time in terms of domestic holiday revenue, which reached $420 million — more...

When it came to opening a sequel to a classic animated movie, Disney didn’t rest on their laurels in selling Moana 2.
Already, the original 2016 2x Oscar nominated movie has a built-in faithful; the pic being one of the most viewed Disney movies on Disney+. Expanding the brand to a worldwide audience, the Burbank, CA lot executed a multi-prong, bespoke D-Day global marketing campaign, one whose stunts arguably rivaled that of Universal’s blitzkrieg for Wicked. While that Broadway musical adaptation had LEGOs, Mattel dolls and pricey consumer fashion attire, Moana 2 roared with a drone show over the Thames river, projection mapping on the cliffs of Capri, Italy, an immersive 3D LED Tunnel 360° “Gallery” in Florence, Italy; a big digital splash around Korean’s Shinsegae department store, as well as beach-themed takeovers.
There was also a $100M worldwide promotional partner campaign, curated by Lylle Breier, Disney EVP of Partnerships,...

While almost all of Pixar’s movies were well-received critically, six of their outings have the unfortunate distinction of ruining the studio’s staggering streak at the Academy Awards. All of Pixar’s movies have their fans, and the studio’s output is often viewed as some of the best family animations that Hollywood has to offer. Since the studio blazed onto the scene with the 1995 blockbuster Toy Story, Pixar married smart scripts, captivating characters, and original ideas with groundbreaking animation. Not only was the studio a leader in 3D animation, but Pixar also had the quality to back up this novelty.

Disney has several upcoming animated movies and the slate looks intriguing. Disney has found incredible success in live-action properties over the years, but the studio's bread and butter for decades has been with animated movies made for the entire family. On top of the classic animated tales that largely defined Disney's success, the acquisition of Pixar in 2006 brought a great partner to produce massive hits. Over the last decade, Disney and Pixar have both found great success with franchises like Frozen and Toy Story, as well as original films like Coco or Encanto.
Even though Disney's animated movies have encountered some struggles at the box office since 2020, this form of storytelling remains a critical part of the Mouse House's strategy. The success of Inside Out 2 at the summer box office could help bring back confidence in these types of movies. There are plans for more new stories from Walt Disney Animation,...

Elio is one of Pixar's most highly anticipated movies in recent memory, and the promise of horror references makes me more confident than ever that it'll be the studio's best original project in almost a decade. After the success of Inside Out in 2015, Pixar has tried hard to find its next big original hit, but nothing has matched the film's success. The lack of relatable and memorable stories has left the studio on a bit of a cold streak; however, Inside Out 2's incredible box office performance is encouraging for Elio, as are the horror comments from its director.
After Adrian Molina left the project, Domee Shi and Madeline Sharafian took over directing duties, with the latter mentioning some potential horror elements. According to Empire's Ultimate 2025 Preview, Sharafian took inspiration from some classic horror films and stated, "I'm always trying to push it to be weirder and a little creepier,...

Disney has dropped the teaser trailer for Pixar’s sci-fi comedy, “Elio”. It’s a celestial coming-of-age adventure with eye-popping intergalactic aliens and phosphorescent-looking environments. It’s about 11-year-old Elio (Yonas Kibreab), a one-eyed, alien-obsessed social misfit, who beams up to an inter-planetary paradise, where he gets mistaken as Earth’s leader. He has a blast forming new bonds while navigating an intergalactic crisis without being found out.
“Elio” is produced by Mary Alice Drumm (associate producer of “Coco”) and directed by Madeline Sharafian (the “Burrow” short) and Domee Shi (“Turning Red”), who replaced Adrian Molina (“Coco” co-director) mid-production.
“Elio” was to mark Molina’s directorial debut and was a personal story. But story problems ensued, and the original release was delayed until June 13, 2025, in part because of the SAG-AFTRA strike. This marked the first time that Pete Docter, Pixar’s chief creative officer, had to replace a director during his tenure.

Parks and Recreation has gone down as one of the finer works in the sitcom domain in the history of entertainment, ranking among the more beloved pieces to fans. Not only did the Rashida Jones starrer leave a lasting impact on viewers, but it also managed to retain and maintain its popularity among fans and viewers even after more than a decade.

But as iconic as the masterful sitcom is, the surprising part is that it all just may have never come down to this. To be more precise, were it not for the whims of a studio executive, the series had all the chances of getting axed prematurely at one point in time. And the more stunning part is that the threat of being canceled constantly loomed on the actors’ heads!

Venom: The Last Dance may not have made as big a splash at the box office as the previous movies in the franchise, but the final part of Sony Pictures' trilogy is proving difficult to knock off the top spot.
The Last Dance took in $16.2 million from 3,905 North American theaters, which was enough to fend off competition from A24’s horror thriller Heretic and Lionsgate’s family friendly The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.
The studio's latest Ssu movie - which sits at 41% on Rotten Tomatoes - has now grossed $279.4 million overseas and $394.2 million globally on a relatively modest budget of $120 million.
This might well be the last Venom movie, but a recent rumor claimed that Sony is developing an Agent Venom film.
In the comics, Agent Venom was Peter Parker's former bully turned friend Eugene "Flash" Thompson, who bonded with the Venom Symbiote after losing his legs in service of his country.

Disney Cruise Line’s latest ship, the Disney Treasure, left to cross the Atlantic Ocean from Eemshaven, Netherlands to Port Canaveral last week. Now Disney is sharing a look, and listen, to one of the seven new ship horn musical numbers the Treasure can “perform.” Although, we only know three of the seven songs so far.
What songs with the Disney Treasure horn play?
Among the new arrangements for the ship are the Haunted Mansion’s “Grim Grinning Ghosts” song. Which is in honor of the ships Haunted Mansion Parlor.
Pixar’s “Remember Me” from “Coco” for the new Plaza de Coco restaurant.
“A Whole New World” from “Aladdin” which is meant to tie back to the Disney Treasure’s Grand Hall.
Here is an example of “A Whole New World.”

It’s been a banner year for animated movies, with artists using the medium to tell stories about robots, cats, snails and the full spectrum of human emotion. These films are just as bold and boundary pushing as the dramas, musicals and historical epics that are seen as top contenders for Oscars. Yet they aren’t getting the same level of attention from the pundit crowd.
Well, if there was ever a time for things to change, it’s now. Heavyweights DreamWorks Animation and Pixar have launched awards campaigns for “The Wild Robot” and “Inside Out 2,” which are virtual locks to nab best animated feature nominations. After various high-profile disagreements and failed deals, Netflix may be set to break away from past strategies and give Greta Gerwig's The Chronicles of Narnia movie adaptation a more substantial theatrical release. After acquiring the complete rights to C.S. Lewis's fantasy novel series in an unprecedented deal in 2018, Gerwig officially signed on to write and direct at least two movies in the streamer's Chronicles of Narnia series. While Coco's Matthew Aldrich has been brought on board to help pen the outline for the series, it is currently unknown which novel Gerwig will adapt first.

Sony Pictures made it clear that Venom: The Last Dance would be the final part of a trilogy, and while the movie did appear to wrap-up Eddie Brock and his Symbiote pal's story, we may now know how the studio is planning to keep the franchise going.

In the comics, Agent Venom was Peter Parker's former bully turned friend Eugene "Flash" Thompson, who bonded with the Venom Symbiote after losing his legs in service of his country. Konstantin Stanislavski taught us that “there are no small parts, only small actors.” Film and TV familiar face Dabbs Greer believed that “every character actor, in their own little sphere, is the lead.” Both would probably have been excited about this year’s Oscar race, where several best picture contenders high-light the power of an ensemble film: no matter where a talent ranks on the call sheet, everyone in the film has some choice scene time.

Inside Out 2 director Kelsey Mann suggests Pixar has more original films in development than it seems, despite the studios latest surge of sequels. The various upcoming releases and confirmed titles Pixar has in development include Toy Story 5 and Incredibles 3. The line-up has led many to question whether Pixar will sacrifice original works to further rely on their well-established franchises, particularly as they come on the heels of Inside Out 2's blockbuster success.
In a recent interview with Empire, Mann, who has also contributed to various Pixar movies over the years, addressed these concerns, suggesting Pixars production pipeline may be more diverse than expected. He hints that there are many original projects currently in the works outside the public's view. Read Manns full response here:
Were always trying to find a balance. I have to think about what you know about... Your number of originals and sequels...

With Venom: The Last Dance set to hit theaters this weekend, Sony Pictures has released the first couple of clips from the threequel.
The first sees Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) enter a casino, as the symbiote excitedly uses the last of their cash on a slot machine (he doesn't react well to losing). The second clip is a little more revealing, as we learn that Doctor Payne (Juno Temple) has seemingly managed to separate Eddie from his alien pal.
The review embargo for The Last Dance lifted last night, and the critical consensus was not overly positive. Though some are referring to this final instalment in the franchise as the best of the trilogy, the movie has now dropped to 37% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 71 reviews.
This places the movie higher than 2018's Venom (30%), but significantly lower than Let There Be Carnage, which sits at a more respectable 57% on the review aggregator.

Hulu’s new Spanish-language series ‘La Máquina’ (2024) is a visually striking, dark dramedy that masterfully blends campy, over-the-top elements with moments of psychological tension. Set primarily in Mexico, the show follows an aging boxer and his crafty manager as they gear up for what could be their final match. His first screenplay was produced in 2001 when he was 30: “EvenHand” was a small indie that played at SXSW, Tribeca, and AFI Fest. But as so many writers have realized, getting one film produced...
