I'm not gonna pretend that this is a phenomenal movie, but I'm so glad that someone finally made a FNAF film. Even better, it was by the awesome people of the ExBlue YouTube channel, the same people who made FNAF 4 and FNAF 1 (soon FNAF 3) in real life. I'm honored to make this movie's first written review (on IMDb at least).
So here's the thing. I watched their creator commentary of the movie earlier, and they talked about how the movie wasn't supposed to have high expectations, but instead be viewed as a passion project of people who loved and cherish the story and lore of FNAF, and it definitely was that. You can certainly see the passion that they put into this movie, and I love it. They used the resources they had and made the most of them while balancing their time and dealing with technical problems along the way, and that is truly inspiring. I have watched all of the original FNAF playthroughs from the ogs like Markiplier and Jacksepticeye, and have also basically watched every timeline and lore theory MatPat and all of the other talented FNAF creators put out. Every piece of FNAF content there is on YouTube is a win for me, and seeing as I am a fan of the franchise, it might appear that I'm a bit biased, which I understand, but in all honestly, I really think this movie deserves a 6/10. The jumpscares are great, (most of) the acting is great, and the sets are great as well. The camera is also sometimes put at unsettling angles, which adds to the overall vibe, and I love that. They also manage to choreograph it well and add a decent amount of suspense to the plot and the story as it reaches the climax. Even better, they have small pixelated segments showing key points in the lore, just like the ones shown in the actual games themselves. While 6/10 isn't the best review, it still shows that it's an enjoyable movie that's worth checking out, even to some non-FNAF fans who just like drama/thriller movies with some horror mixed in there.
Thanks so much for making a FNAF movie, because us fans have been deprived of one since the first rumors started in 2016 (I think). While we all want Blumhouse to put out the movie as soon as possible, it's important to not rush the making of a movie that's gotta be amazing, so thanks for making this movie to satisfy the fans for now. The people at ExBlue are totally awesome, and I love them a ton. I hope they see this review, and by the way, it's totally cool how they incorporated some of their own lore in there. Please check out this movie, they worked hard on it and it deserves to be supported.
