The Director Who Buys Me Dinner (2022)

Review by dollydiabolique

The Director Who Buys Me Dinner

8/10

Lovely short series

This series really impressed me with how much story development it managed to fit into just ten episodes of around twelve minutes each. Despite the short runtime, the pacing never felt rushed, and the writing, direction, cinematography, and acting all came together to create something both polished and heartfelt. The characters were engaging right from the start, and their relationships were easy to connect with, which made the show very watchable and enjoyable throughout.

One aspect I particularly enjoyed was the subtle element of fantasy woven into the story. It wasn't over the top or far-fetched, but rather felt natural and beautifully integrated into the world of the characters. This touch gave the series a unique flavor, setting it apart from more straightforward dramas, while still keeping it grounded and emotionally relatable.

I also appreciated the overall aesthetic, the way the story was shot gave it a warm, intimate atmosphere that suited the tone perfectly. The performances felt natural and genuine, which added depth to even the smaller, quieter moments.

If I had one small critique, it would be that the ending, while optimistic and satisfying in its own way, felt a little too brief. I would have loved to see the resolution developed further. Still, given the limited time, the series wrapped up well and left me with a positive impression. Overall, it's a lovely series; thoughtful, engaging, and easy to recommend. If you enjoy Korean BL's, this should be on your watch list.
