Moon Man

This movie is in German. I don't have much German but its irrelevant.

The visualizations in this movie capture you from the opening sequence to the close of the movie.

The music chosen for each scene is made up of well known tunes.

The tone of the movie, although quite dark, is accentuated both by the music & the visuals.

The only negative is that it meanders along quite slowly. This is on purpose so that the audience can grasp all the comical & curious notes laid out in each scene.

Well worth a watch, even if you don't understand German.

The Movie uses a great musical score to give us a powerful intro, and steadily stays amazing throughout the film.

The animation was very surreal. Like animation should, it steps out of the boundaries of reality, much like I assume the book does.

Helping out was a psychedelic influenced music score that included that song by Iron Butterfly.

The man on the moon travels to earth on a fire ball and now attempts to get back home before a dictator who set his sights on the rock gets there first.

It's a very good animated feature. Recommend

It's been a long time since I've seen such a wonderful, subtle story accompanied by an extraordinary visuals. Simply magical!!! Beautiful artwork with magnificent colours!

Read the full review on my blog max4movies: Der Mondmann (2012) (international title: Moon Man) is based on the traditional children's story of the Moon Man visiting Earth and his misadventures to travel back to the moon. Although the movie is mainly targeted at a younger audience, more mature viewers will notice the many references in the movie and how it sensibly deals with topics like friendship, trust, and commitment. Production-wise the movie is made very competently with beautiful backgrounds, vibrant colors, and sharp contrasts. However, sometimes the pacing feels off and the movie features few elements that seem out of place in a typical children's movie (e.g., the romantic scene). Thus, the movie is generally entertaining, highly imaginative, and beautiful to look at - but could also use a slightly better focus.
