I don't know what's not to like about this show. It's cute, informative and not preachy. I figured it would all be only organic blah blah blah, but it's not. She lets us know what foods are better organic and which are the same. She also sheds light on other things like cooking oils, grains and chocolate. My kids adores this show and asked immediately if we could go get Romaine lettuce and Watercress which of course is a hard yes. They also said they really would like to try dark chocolate which they now have and loved. This show is all about making good choices, eating like we used to before everything went processed. There is nothing about dieting or other fad crap that's out there. I really hope there is a second season.
It's a nice, easy watch, shedding some light on common misconceptions about food and getting into the health effects of different foods.
I'm really learning a lot so far on cooking and what to use when and how! This would probably be a good show for kids to watch, so they can learn about nutrition and what goes into making the food they consume!
The editing is entertaining and fun, with lots of little short bits of animations that I think kids would also really enjoy.
I'm really enjoying this so far! And Zooey Deschanel is so sweet and basically just her character Jess from New Girl.
Thanks.

They recommend grape seed oil for frying, which releases free radicals. They give some fun facts about foods, but not a lot of science that helps you understand, a lot of opinion. It also talks about how fats aren't so bad, which is true, but then it doesn't talk at all about where the harm really does lie. They say canola is bad, but don't explain why "processed" is bad and then show various other oils being processed. I haven't finished the show yet, but the shocked gasping by the correspondents emphasizes how little people know about food on this show. The ghee part kept saying it was healthy and they didn't really back that up.
I watched this episode and was very unhappy with the way they put up jam. They did NOT process it to make it safe for storage. ALL HOME CANNED foods must be processed to prevent botulism. Jams in 8 oz jars must be processed in either boiling water or steam bath. Fruits are not shelf stable by just turning the closed jars upside done. Some jars lids pop as if sealed but are not safe. I am a canner for more than 20 years. Every year we are bombarded by people who do not follow safe preservation techniques. We must stress the proper ways to preserve food. Please review the Ball home preserving Blu Book and National Center for Home Food Preservation provide all the safe processes for home preservation of our food.
This show does a really nice job of making healthy eating accessible to the average viewer. While some of this information is not new to me -- e.g. How the sugar industry conspired to blame fat (instead of sugar) as a health risk -- I did learn some interesting tidbits. I especially appreciated when episodes listed sources on screen and cited reputable groups like the EWG. I also really like how the narrative acknowledged wallet issues and offered alternatives. No, it doesn't go into *great detail* about some of its recommendations, but I think it plants the seed for a curious viewer to do some online research. (I recommend a medical journal or a dot-edu over a random dot-com site.)
Zooey D. Does a great job of being herself, conveying positive information, and keeping things light. If you hated The New Girl for some reason, this show might not be for you. Otherwise, it's family-friendly fare that might encourage you to take proactive steps toward healthier and/or savvier eating.
