As a general viewer, what do you want to see in a good film ? Good acting? Good story? Good songs? Everything is there in Projapati.
Director Avijit Sen has done a good job again after Tonic. The songs of the movie are melodious and perfectly placed. The story of the movie is very nice. It's a family drama, where father - son bonding is the main highlight. And there is a sweet love story between two elderly persons. I congratulate the producers. They strike the right chord.
Acting wise, it is a through and through Mithun Chakraborty movie. What an actor he is ?! By looking at him, you will get the feeling he is hypnotizing the audience. His performance is superlative as a lonely father.
Another commendable performance is done by Mamata Shankar. She plays her part with an ease.
Dev is good as the son but in some scenes, he should be better. Kharaj and Ambarish should get special mention as they both have done a marvelous job. Sweta, Kaninika, Biswanath are good at their parts.
At the end, I must say, You can see the film more than once for one man's performance -Mithun Chakraborty.

A beautiful movie. Little bit overdramatic at the end. The storyline is good. The best thing about the movie is Mithun Chakraborty's acting. It is proved again that if you give him a good script, he will create such a magic on screen that no one ever could. We can name a few of his gems like - Mrigaya, Tahader katha, Titli, Kalpurush, Swami Vivekananda, Shukno Lanka, The Tashkent files, Ekti Nadir golpo, or this one, Projapati. In Projapati, each time he appears in the screen, he just steals the show. His eyes, gestures, dialogue delivery, everything is just brilliant and could be a lesson to all wanna be actors. Mamata Shankar is graceful and good. Her on-screen pairing with Mithun is just perfect. I wonder why other directors didn't cast them after Mrigaya. Dev is consistent throughout the movie. Kharaj and Ambarish are great actors and they have proved it again here. Kaninika is superb in a small role. Sweta is really good and has potential but in this movie, she doesn't have much scope. Biswanath is fine in a small role.
Direction is very good just like his previous film Tonic. Music of the film is very soothing. Cinematography is good and fresh.
Over all, you should watch the film atleast once to witness the maestro of Mithun Chakraborty's acting.

Projapati is a film of relationship. Relationship between father and son, relationship between old friends. The screenplay in the first half is gripping. Mithun Chakraborty tried his level best to arrange marriage for his only son Dev, who is a wedding planner. But on the course of arranging marriage of his son, Mithun found his old friend Mamata Shankar. Now the dimension of story is changed. Unfortunately second half is dipping due to too much characters bur unfortunately most of them are underdeveloped. Performance wise Kharaj Mukherjee, Ambarish, Mamata Shankar, Dev justified with their roles. New comer Sweata did good job. But Mithun Chakraborty ultimately steals the show. He is fabulous in both comedy and tragedy. His pairing with Mamata Shankar after 46 years of Mrinal Sen's classic Mrigaya made you Nostalgic. Music is good. Portraying of Benaras in the film is praiseworthy. It is definitely one time watchable particularly for Mithun, who again proved that age doesn't matter for a natural actor.
Outstretched excessively on the second half with unnecessary drama. Mithun Chakraborty's usual charm started off the film well but then in b/w it lost on its main plot & diverted to something else. Dev's Tonic is better any day compared to this, but the fact to see Mithun again in a Movie Medium, it was something else. Shouldve kept it short following the main storyline in a father's attempt to get his son married off. The intentional attempts to influence upon a emotional scene, it really felt not need, could've been done away with. The overdoing of all this has ruined it but quite happy to see Mithun & Dev's movie get their due success. I'm really aainst TMC's policy of discrimination against other opposition actor/actresses.
Narratives about mothers and their undying affection for their children have always been commemorated and recognised not only by culturual explorations, but also through our artistic expressions, through the medium of cinema, plays, poems or literatures, but we seldom see the sacred relationship between a father and his son or daughter being portrayed in an identical manner.
So far, only a few stories have attempted to delineate what fatherhood genuinely means and why it must become an integral part of our everyday conversations. Projapati as a film is yet another attempt to reinvigorate the same discourse.
It is uplifting, engaging, and, above all, full of familial warmth and love that will be relevant to a vast percentage of the viewers (particularly Bengalis). Yes, It's not perfect, it does have some issues that cannot and should not be overlooked, but if you go in with a limited set of expectations and an open mind, you will have a good time, I assure.
P. S. The chemistry between Dev and Mithun was so natural; they looked & acted like a real life father-son pair; there's no superficiality in their on-screen rapport, and that certainly to some degree at least, played a part in making the equation more lively and likeable.
