The one thing that I really liked about this episode was it was the closest to the original so far.
None of the huge conspiracy nonsense from the cast in the future. Most of which add very little. And often makes the budget for good acting in the adventure for the episode to be low. Much the case in this one. Plot and script was very weak.
I was not surprised to find out this show was cancelled.
300 filler Appearance. Like octopus and cuttlefish, squid are a type of cephalopod, Greek for "head foot." Behind the animal's head is a soft, elongated mantle: a muscular space containing its organs. Unlike an octopus, which has no skeleton, squid have an internal shell called a gladius, or pen.

Maybe it was the anticipation of seeing a new season, but this episode was really good. The team dynamics; Ben being on his own; the mission and deception. The way they solved some of their challenges were innovative and things I've not seen before.
My only critique about this show has always been the poor acting from Caitlin Bassett. Perhaps that is why I really enjoyed this episode because she was not in it? And even though she was not a love interest, I liked seeing Melissa Roxburgh as the commander of the team. I hope there is more like this one in Season 2. Since the show continues, we can assume they find him, so this isn't really a spoiler. And I will suggest, if they can find Ben... maybe, they can find Sam Beckett?
One can hope!

Acting is pretty good for the most part, even that woman from manifest shows her range.
Direction gets the job done with some panache which is rare in shows like these.
Sound- no loud music over dialogue is always a plus.
Effects are basic to middling quality, (explosions and plane crash look like a cheap seat stunt show)
Story is ok, serviceable as a premier, tries to put us in bens shoes as he doesn't know whats going on.
Apart from the supporting cast of the week lacking depth and feel more like demographic appeal than anything else, i can only hope this improves as the season progresses as season 1 did.
As for the ending it's another tried and tested annoying cliff hanger and overall plot progression shoe horned in to 30- seconds.

These writers showed pretty much zero understanding of how anything they wrote about works. Plus the entire premise is asinine. You have a supposedly important cargo, so you intentionally fly four planes that might carry it over enemy airspace?
No.
The way they supposedly saved a guy from standing on a pressure plate for a mine? Dumb. Pressure plates don't work the way they supposed. SAMS don't turn around from high in the air to target a fire behind them on the ground. People don't survive the level of plane crash shown with minor scrapes. Trucks don't drive in a straight line on a rough road when you release the wheel. This is really only the tip of the iceberg about how stupid these writers are, but I'm tired of listing the nonsense.

- TriviaThe opening narration for the season opener includes a snippet from the original series: "...He awoke to find himself trapped in the past, facing mirror images that were not his own, and driven by an unknown force to change history for the better..." What's more, the narrator is Deborah Pratt - who also narrated the original series.
- GoofsWhen Ben transports to 1978, he meets Lieutenant Ellen Grier. At one point, she states she was number one in her class at the Academy, which would be impossible. The U.S. Service Academies did not accept women as Cadets and Midshipmen until 1976, so they didn't graduate until 1980.
