After her audition for the role of Laura Nicola Potts showed Paul McDonahue and Brant Adam a Dictaphone on which she had learned her lines due to having no one else to read opposite.The Dictaphone inspired McDonahue to write an additional two scenes for the 'Laura' character revealing that she had taken a course in journalism and the Dictaphone became a key part of the story.Potts won the role.

Paul McDonahue and Ava Harrison were next door neighbors.

Ava Harrison was accompanied on set by her grandmother,a former girlfriend of Albert Finney in the 1950's.

Auditions were held in an office sat at a Ping-Pong table as all the other desks were considered too small.
