Chef Dynasty: House of Fang

Kathy Fang comes across as a miserable, know it all with a valley girl, spoiled rich girl type of persona. Seeing how she interacts with people would make me deliberately go some place else to eat. I don't care how good her food is (or how good she thinks it is). She has a lot of growing up to do.

I'm a big fan of some of the chefs on the food network, but I can't get into a show if the stars aren't likable. She needs to bake some humble pie and eat some of it (actually she could stand to eat the whole thing). I haven't decided on whether or not I like her dad or not. The verdict is still out...

I'm enjoying the show to watch Kathy Fang grow and expand her restaurant. I like unscripted shows, and this does not disappoint. I've been watching Kathy over the years on Food Network. She's been on Chopped, Beat Bobby Flay, Cut Throat Kitchen, Alex vs. America, etc.

Keep going girl! ... Kathy's dad is very much like my parents. Kathy wants to make her food more accessible so she is creating fusion food. Her dad wants to serve authentic food and does not want to change. I'm glad that Kathy was able stand her ground and trying to expand her menu. It is a tricky to balance fusion food while paying homage to the origins of the food.

I find it sad that whatever Kathy makes that has ingredients not Chinese, her father makes nasty faces. Kathy has to beg him to try and he'll always say he hates the dish. It seems he only wants to eat Chinese food and is resistant to open up to other cuisines. Odd. Living in America, we are fortunate to be able to taste food from all over the world. Does he not eat American food? How about Italian, Vietnamese, Mexican, Indian and so forth. I would think most people enjoy food from all cultures, not just their own. Personally, American food is not my favorite; Vietnamese, Thai, Indian, Japanese, Sole food and Spanish food are my favorites.

Kathy's dishes look incredibly unique and delicious and I wish I lived close by. I wouldn't however classify them as Chinese. Perhaps a fusion with various other cuisines. Regardless, she's a GREAT cook with great ideas. My mouth was watering with each creation. I find her father to be disrespectful of her and luckily, she seems to take it with a grain of salt. She also seems like a genuinely nice human.

The show is rather boring and I really don't care about how the restaurant is growing. Would much rather just see the cooking.

Kathy's food looks so good and I've love to see her open a restaurant in my neck of the woods. But the show, in my opinion, is a waste of time.

Big fan of the restaurant in San Francisco. I like the show so far and the interaction between Kat and her dad is interesting. I personally like the drama that is in the show, adds to the spice of the show. Favorite part was the dragon boat racing scene, I like how they intertwined Chinese culture into the show.

I think it's worth a watch. Good for folks that like cooking shows and also good for people that like to have some drama to keep things lively. Hopefully they'll make a season 2.

Next time in San Francisco I'll definitely visit the restaurant again. Really great food and atmosphere. One of my favorite restaurants in the Bay Area.

I was rather looking forward to this mini-series on FN, something different from the usual American or Italian food, or a competition using impossible ingredients.

House of Fang dishes looked creative and interesting, but the host ... distracting and unwatchable. She oozes fakeness similar to Giada. Silicone "enhancements", lowcut shirts, bleached hair, blue eyes (really??), thick eyelid makeup that looks like fuzzy caterpillars, long painted nails (does she actually cook?) Dad looks genuine, endearing, old-school, but she is trying way too hard to promote her looks. If professional women chefs are preparing high quality cuisine, they do not need this kind of "marketing."

Would have been great to see a cooking show focus on Asian cuisine. I really miss Ming Tsai.
