Storyville: The Naked Dance

This is supposed to tell the history of Storyville, The Red Light district in New Orleans that was from 1897 to 1917. Instead it tries to be entertaining more than informative. Unfortunately, I learned nothing I didn't already know and I did not know a lot on the subject. I also was not very entertained.

This movie gives a fraction of the history on Storyville that you can get reading the entry in Wikipedia. Throughout is narration that is supposed to represent a prostitute that worked in Storyville. It is largely fictional as it uses terms not yet in use and historical facts that come after Storyville. Or obviously some just sounds made up. Plus I personally found a lot of the narration boring. Some pictures shown (I've seen elsewhere before) are not related to what is being talked about at the same time.

The other problem is although included are some pictures of naked women, often they start discussing a topic and seem to not get into detail as if they are trying to keep it all PG rated. So just as they talk about something interesting, they stop and move to something else.

I don't think the filmmakers knew what they wanted to make. There was a lot they could have gotten into but didn't. That made this a Non-Documentary. Read Wikipedia instead.
