Simply wonderful
One of the best drama series of all times. Can't remember when I last cried watching a TV series, but "Halt and Catch Fire" made me sob. Wonderful characters. Compelling mixture of fact and fiction. Great actors.
I lived through most of the computer history that is being presented in the plot-line, and I have to say: it is SPOT ON. I will remain a fan forever.

AMC THANK YOU
One of the best written shows to have ever lasted 4 wonderful seasons. Amazing from start to finish. With seasons 1 & 4 being my personal favorites!
A must see for those who love technology.
Great series with fantastic casting.
Well-written characters, a slow but compelling story and in the background there is practically a documentary on the history of computers, game consoles and the internet.
A psychedelic series as it easily creates addiction and broadens the perspective of certain past events.
The first season is a springboard for a group of genius but employees of a company, each specializing in different fields, who unite to create the ultimate in computer technology. However, from the second season onwards, things begin to change, and it's seen more from the perspective of a company. Now, you're no longer the brilliant employee but the brilliant CEO who must find the minds and the ideas to shape the world, while at the same time, find the money to keep the operation going.
It has an excellent Series Finale: moving, nostalgic and hopeful for the future as the machine of revolutionary ideas never ends.

Halt and Watch Greatness
Set at the dawn of the tech industry boom of the 1980's, this drama follows a group of fictional individuals that help birth the technology that makes today's world possible. Two couples, a tech savvy married couple and a lusty on-again-off-again pair, team up with their old boss to ride the wave of the tech revolution. However, the main character of this series is technology itself. How quickly it became irrevocably entwined into our everyday lives, American life, and the entire world. Everything we use today, everyday, got its origins from human imagination and this fictionalized account of that genesis is both fun and nostalgic. If you were born in the 80s, you can peg the stages of your life based on what stage technology had advanced: from DOS, to Windows, to the internet, to social media. This series takes you through much of that timeline in a way that gets you excited about the history of it.
The storyline with the characters provides the human element to this tech tale. One of the characters has a self-destructive streak, which makes you go "omg, what's he going to do next?!?" He also has that necessary blend of genius and madman that is an absolute must for this kind of story. I do appreciate the endings for most of the characters. The characters move away from each other and back again through the course of the story since it takes place over many years. I also have to admit, I don't ever tire of watching "geeks" make money. Like, mega money. And drive pretty cars. A story about people having the brains, the ingenuity, and the passion to change the world and reaping the rewards from that is the American dream. That force of energy is the driving emotion in this series and carries the characters through their other more personal trials from beginning to end.

Mad at myself for putting this off for so long bc it's terrific
I've heard nothing but great things about Halt and Catch Fire for several years now but I always put it off because I had other things to watch. Well, I finally got around to watching it and I'm actually mad at myself for putting it off for so long. It's as good as everyone says it's is. I'd actually go as far as to say it's one of the more underrated shows of the last decade. It didn't get promoted nearly enough, I barely heard about it when it was on. I need to give a special mention to Lee Pace, who is one of the most underrated and under appreciated actors out there right now, because he is amazing in this. If people actually gave this a chance like I did they would be amazed by how good it is. I can not recommend this show enough.

- Trivia"HCF" ("Halt and Catch Fire") is from one of a number of lists of humourous assembly command mnemonics. Others are "BrH" ("Branch and Hang" and "DWIM" ("Do What I Meant"). {DWIM, if it existed, would be the single most useful programming command ever.} HCF refers to a computer machine code instruction that causes the computer's central processing unit (CPU) to cease meaningful operation, typically requiring a restart of the computer.
