The series was originally supposed to have more fantasy elements, bordering on a full on Magical Girl series. However, the plot was changed at the last minute and most of the fantasy elements were scrapped with the exception of Dela.
Naoko Yamada passed on doing a third season of K-On! (2009) in favor of doing an original project, which Tamako Market eventually took shape.
