First a disclaimer: I am Dutch, I know the persons. I know what they can do and how they think. That makes it way more fun, because after this I watched the Australian version and it not funny at all...
I like the concept that you must not laugh. Comedians should not laugh about their own jokes, but I also like the battles when they are one on one and trying to make the other laugh. And I like bloopers a lot, the spontaneous laugh. And word jokes by the way...
So there are no bloopers unfortunality but the battles are there! And there are some very creative actions to try to make the other laugh. I dare say that each comedian is a their best! When I watched most people seperate and for an hour + performing I do not like them much. But here they have short bursts, like Henri, I do not like his solo show. But I lke all his performances in shows, series and everything else on tv. Same goes for other persons.
I like the sketches that they do and I also like that the 'jury' is pushing them and making it harder. And they really see every laugh. I like it. And I have really respect for not laughing, it must be really hard!
I like also that the episodes are really short and you can watch everything in one sit. It should not take longer I think. And I also like they lead the show with 2 persons. I really must laugh out loud when there is something very funny but you cannot laugh... The tention of this is really another dimension. I like it.
So again, I had some great laughs, I still feel my eyes afterwards from crying. I hope they can do another season with this much quality. Taking comedian out of their comfort zone!
And after seeing Australia I am totally convinced the 9 is well deserved! And I want to see a Belgian version by the way.

This was both fun and interesting! Just alone Bas performing with his flute was totally worth it to watch this. So was the awkward situation where everyone started to imitate Stefano. And many other moments that where truly funny. Great group, funny format and well executed. Compared to the Last One Laughing from other countries, it looks like some improvements to this format where added like the graphics that look much better. Looking forward to season 2. I hope other Dutch comedians are brave enough to join other seasons because it has potential, but it's depending on the comedians that are joining. And also the chemistry.
2 episodes in, and all I am thinking is, my gosh, this is even worse then an old fashioned Dutch style wedding in which the family and friends are doing little cringy acts on stage.
They should have put the challenge of 6 hours not laughing into 1 episode. I have a feeling they will be stretching those six hours over 6 episodes.
But yeah, this show is exactly why I don't watch regular tv anymore, besides news and some documentaries. I found this show on prime and thought it would be different then a tv show, but it isn't. Perhaps it's even worse. It's not even cosy tv. It's the epiphany of uselessness, as it doesn't even entertain. It doesn't make the audience laugh, not even smile, so why would any of the contestants?!

Laughing is a group thing, so when laughing is forbidden for the contestants, it is like seeing a standup comedian with an impossible audience. Therefore I think it is not funny to watch. Perhaps for the comedians it is amusing, but not for me as a viewer of the show.
It would work if there was an audience watching the show. Also it would be more if a challenge for the contestants. The atmosphere at times was killing and not amusing. I have not seen the show in other countries / languages. In this format in Dutch it also does not work, because the hosts are Belgians and the contestants are Dutch.

Because this concerns the Dutch version, also a short Dutch review (Dutch wasn't allowed). The concept looks and sometimes feels a bit American. But it's a pretty interesting human study. It sometimes feels a bit uncomfortable at home on the couch, because are you really going to laugh at situations where no one is smiling on the screen?
But the comments from the actual players make it a pretty funny concept. The two acts by Bas Hoeflaak really stand out and truth be told we almost choked on the couch laughing.
They are short episodes but we binged it to the end. You remain fascinated to see who is the next to laugh and those moments you completely die laughing yourself.
Probably too tiring to watch multiple seasons, because it is hard work. But in a fun way.
