Lauren Mayberry, frontwoman of Chvrches, has announced details of her debut solo album: Vicious Creature will arrive in full on December 6th via Island Records. She’s also shared a new preview of the LP in the form of “Crocodile Tears,” and announced dates for a 2025 North American tour.
“Crocodile Tears” builds out the vibe established with previously released single “Something In the Air,” where Mayberry embraces catharsis. There’s a cheeky side to this new track, though: “Maybe I’m a villain, but I find it kind of thrilling when you cry,” she admits over bright synths and an upbeat drum keeping time.
In a statement about the project, Mayberry called out “the dark, physical, and subversive sides of femininity” as key influences over Vicious Creature as a whole, citing musicals like Cabaret and Chicago. “Crocodile Tears” is now the fourth track listeners can enjoy ahead of the full project in December,...

2024 isn't even over yet, and we've already been hearing about a lot of new horror content set to be released in 2025. For example, Paramount Pictures will release its new horror film Vicious early next year, and you won't believe who's in the cast.
We first learned of this horror flick back in February 2024. At the time, it was reported that Paramount Pictures had boarded a new horror film titled Vicious and that Emmy nominee Dakota Fanning would be leading the cast. Bryan Bertino was also announced to be helming the film. Atlas Entertainment and Richard Suckle were signed on to produce with Melinda Whitaker as executive producer. The movie was also given a Aug. 8, 2025 theatrical release.
However, so much new information has come out about this film since then. For one, it will no longer be released in theaters in August 2025. Instead, its theatrical release has been pushed up to Feb.

Paramount Pictures has announced that the Naked Gun reboot, which is still untitled, has been delayed from its original release date of July 18, 2025. It has been delayed by just two weeks and is now set to premiere on August 1, 2025. Dakota Fanning recently spoke to The Cut about the awkward and oftentimes inappropriate interviews she was put into as a child star. The actor started her professional career at 6 years old and emerged as one of the Hollywood’s biggest child stars with performances in “Man on Fire,” “I Am Sam,” “War of the Worlds” and more.
“In interviews at a young age, I remember journalists asking me, ‘How are you avoiding becoming a tabloid girl?’ People would ask super-inappropriate questions,” Fanning said “I was in an interview as a child and somebody asked, ‘How could you possibly have any friends?’ It’s like, huh?”
“I have a lot of compassion for people who have been made into examples. If society and the media hadn’t played their part, who knows?” Fanning added about child stardom, noting that she was able to largely avoid the toxicity that so many young performs endure.

V.E. Schwab's dark superhero story, Vicious, would fit right in with anti-superhero series like The Boys and Invincible. The novel's dark exploration of masculinity and unchecked ambition would make for a compelling TV show or movie. Despite the popularity of alternative superhero shows, studios are overlooking the potential of adapting Vicious into a movie or TV series.

Gary Janetti really wants air travel attire to step it up.
The television veteran — he’s a longtime writer and producer of “Family Guy” and did the same on “Will & Grace,” “Vicious” and “The Prince” — chronicles his own travel in his new and third collection of essays, “We Are Experiencing a Slight Delay.”
And let’s just say he’s not a fan of casual flying.
“Flip flops should only be worn by the pool,” says Janetti, who has also gained a fandom for his witty captions on Instagram. “I don’t need to see your feet on a plane. I don’t understand — how comfortable does one need to be in order to travel? Most people fly as if they’re in bed on day seven of the flu.”

Dakota Fanning is only 30 years old, but she's been acting professionally for 24 of them. A child actor who fortunately avoided the trap of the teen idol curse, Fanning successfully transitioned into more mature roles like Squeaky Fromme in Quentin Tarantino's "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood," Emma Collins in "The Equalizer 3," and as Marge Sherwood on "Ripley." Now, Fanning is starring in Ishana Shyamalan's feature directorial debut, "The Watchers," a dark fairytale about an artist named Mina who gets stranded in the woods and finds sanctuary with three strangers as they are all watched by mysterious, unseen creatures at night.
Fanning plays Mina, a messy, complicated, driven character that is a bit outside of the wheelhouse of what general audiences may be used to seeing her portray. The success of "The Watchers" hinges on whether or not the audience can identify with and root for Mina's survival.

Brian Helgeland's 2001 film "A Knight's Tale" is based on the first of the Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer, but it has as much to do with 14th-century medieval literature as "Wayne's World." The film features characters singing Queen songs and one of the characters invents the Nike "swoop" as a brand for her armor. The story involves William Thatcher (Heath Ledger) a handsome young cove who aims to win jousting tournaments and be welcomed as one of the king's knights. It's a raucous, lightweight, silly movie that is deeply beloved by a very specific age group, that is: those who were between 15 and 17 in May of 2001.
It also depicted Ledger at the height of his heartthrob powers, as well as Paul Bettany (as Chaucer), Rufus Sewell as the villain, Shannyn Sossamon as Ledger's would-be paramour, and a trio of brilliant comedian sidekicks in Mark Addy, Laura Fraser, and Alan Tudyk.

What do you do when they come for you? Beloved horror franchise “The Strangers” is getting a revamp, courtesy of prequel “The Strangers: Chapter 1” starring “Riverdale” alum Madelaine Petsch. Two more sequels are due later this year, all from “Die Hard 2” and “Cliffhanger” director Renny Harlin.
In this first film, Petsch stars as a young woman who is trying to start a new life with her fiancé. Yet, during a road trip stop in a remote vacation rental in the woods, the couple become the prey of a mysterious gang of masked strangers who attack without warning or reason. Froy Gutierrez, Gabriel Basso, and Ema Horvath co-star.
Sure, it may sound like a run-of-the-mill slasher, but “The Strangers” franchise has a haunting allure, thanks to its creation by filmmaker Bryan Bertino. The director has a “story by” credit for “Chapter 1,” which is helmed by Harlin and written by Alan R. Cohen and Alan Freedland.

Paramount is polishing its crystal ball today and looking ahead at some of the films from the studio in the next few years. At least, that’s how it feels when Paramount earnings day comes along. The studio announced a 0.6% increase in stock today, with various release date announcements to whet investor’s whistles. Among the titles mentioned during today’s report, Paramount put dates on projects like Liam Neeson’s Naked Gun reboot, a sequel to 2023’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, and more.
The Naked Gun reboot pratfalls into theaters on July 18, 2025, with Liam Neeson starring in the comedic role made famous by the late Leslie Neilsen. Akiva Schaffer directs, and executive produces the Naked Gun reboot, with Dan Gregor and Doug Man writing the script draft alongside Schaffer. One of the reasons this is exciting is that the trio partnered for the way-better-than-anticipated Chip n’ Dale: Rescue Rangers film.

In addition to Ishana Night Shyamalan’s upcoming The Watchers, Dakota Fanning is next teaming up with director Bryan Bertino.
Variety reports that Fanning will star in Vicious, the next horror film from Bertino.
Vicious has already been dated for release on August 8, 2025.
“The plot follows a young woman who must spend the night fighting for her existence as she slips down a disturbing rabbit hold contained inside a mysterious gift from a late-night visitor.”
Bryan Bertino wrote the script and will be directing the film, an Atlas Independent production. Melinda Whitaker serves as executive producer, with Richard Suckle also producing.
Editor’s Note: A previous version of this report listed ‘Dakota Johnson’ as the star of Vicious instead of ‘Dakota Fanning.’ Apologies for the mistake and any confusion it caused!

Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' on Heaven's Door – or "The Movie" outside Japan – is an underrated work of art only marred by a few narrative blemishes. The fact it doesn't appear in conversations about the series shouldn't be taken as a sign that the film was a disaster. While it doesn't hit the same emotional highs as the TV show's best episodes, the movie does deliver some of the best action scenes in animated history.
While it's easy to disregard the movie as a quick tie-in to bring in a few extra dollars out of the Cowboy Bebop anime, thinking it's sloppy or uninspired would be a disservice to both. The movie, created by staff from Sunrise, Bones, and Bandai Visual, is bursting with quality visuals. Its only weakness is a plot that lacks the same charisma and imagination that the original TV series had in spades.

When Ezra Furman first heard Transformer, Lou Reed’s louche, bristling second album, it was as though she’d found her way out of a locked room. “Who I thought Lou Reed was [when I was] in high school became, like, ‘Oh, I’ll follow that. That’s a way to go.’” The seminal 1972 record – which celebrates its 50th anniversary today – was to become a touchstone for Furman’s own subversive work.
You can hear it in her sound. The raw crackle. The often distorted guitars. The slightly haughty vocals. Reed’s fingerprints are all over Furman’s music. And, in her own words, Transformer “had a lot to do with being publicly androgynous and queer”. Furman, who came out as a trans woman last year and is bisexual, has in the past called Reed “an ideal figure to me”. In fact, Reed’s sound and philosophy spoke to Furman so much that,...

Quick Links How to Unlock Giovanna Grana and the Gatti Amari How to Evolve the Gatti Amari into Vicious Hunger
One of the best Weapons for making Gold in Vampire Survivors is Vicious Hunger, an evolved armament that can only be obtained by combining a Relic with its previous form, the Gatti Amari. The name gatti amari" is Italian, roughly meaning "bitter cats." Accordingly, the Gatti Amari Weapon is capable of summoning a clowder of capricious cats. These erratic felines have a mind of their own and will attack enemies at will in Vampire Survivors, making them interesting yet ultimately ineffective Weapon projectiles.
Nevertheless, if players want Vicious Hunger, they must first unlock the Gatti Amari, which can be done by obtaining Giovanna Grana in Vampire Survivors. Giovanna Grana is a broom-riding, cat-loving witch whose Starting Weapon is, unsurprisingly, the Gatti Amari. Once players manage to survive on any stage with Giovanna for 15 minutes,...

Originally shot as Abyzou, The Offering begins with the camera slowly moving through rooms filled with candles and symbols. A rooster jumps into view, only to have its throat cut as part of a ritual. But this isn’t some voodoo ceremony or satanic offering, this is Hasidic mysticism. And, like so many other forms of magic, it doesn’t end well for the practitioner.
Art has come home, hoping to reconcile with his much more Orthodox father Saul. His wife Claire. has come along as well, although being told “Art may love you, but you’ll never be family” has made her less than enthusiastic about the trip. They hope the prospect of a grandchild will soften his attitude. We soon find out that the old man has indeed softened his opinions about Claire.

I’m writing a letter to Richard Curtis on behalf of Frances de la Tour. Release the director’s cut of Love Actually – for the sake of the nation. Maybe it was too dark to bring into it. Because it ended up being quite a light and fluffy film, didn’t it?” It could have made the affectionately derided Christmas film into something quite different – more progressive, less cloyingly twee. Do Revenge stars Riverdale’s Camila Mendes and Stranger Things’ Maya Hawke as two high school students who’ve had their social lives ruined by their respective loose-lipped exes. In an effort to exact their titular revenge, the pair decide to employ each other to inflict the punishments they’re hesitant to bestow upon their own tormentors. The premise evokes stories like Patricia Highsmith’s Strangers On A Train or the cult dark comedy film Heathers, while the trailer’s aesthetics call to mind recent movies like Promising Young Woman and Ingrid Goes West.

As Michelle Yeoh basks in the success of “Everything Everywhere All At Once,” she ponders for a moment a world where “Crazy Rich Asians” wasn’t a huge box office success. “What if it didn’t work?” she asks.

BlackOps Studios Asia from the Philippines, Story Arch Pictures from the U.S. and Agog Film from Hong Kong have joined forces to develop, produce and finance a slate of genre movies that target the streaming marketplace.
The 16-title slate comprises nine films and seven series in the action, horror and sci-fi genres, with 11 flowing from BlackOps, two from Story Arch and three from Agog. The lineup is being unveiled this week at the European Film Market, the online companion to the in-person Berlin Film Festival.
The slate has development support from the Philippines-based creative agency Psyops8 and is expected to tap into incentives and location support from the Film Development Council of the Philippines (Fdcp). Leading Philippines media group Abs-cbn has already come on board “Sellblock,” a prison-set action drama that is one of the first titles to emerge from BlackOps stable and is now in pre-production.
