-Nearly 30 years after the drowning of her older brother, Simon, Élise Dénommé takes care of her mother who is in poor health. The latter still lives in the family home, which has remained virtually unchanged since then. Élise learns that Simon has mistakenly received an invitation to the conventum of his high school cohort. She decides to go. In the past, Simon celebrates his 15th birthday with his best friend, Berge. Today, Élise discovers that Philippe Drolet, pastoral animator at the time, was close to her brother. She makes an appointment with him.

-Élise and Simon witness the widening gap between their parents. Thirty years later, Lorraine has decided to live in residence and the family home is for sale. Elise calls on Hugo, a real estate agent and former friend of Simon's whom she met at the conventum. While cleaning up her mother's office, she finds the police report on Simon's drowning. Philippe Drolet says he has the same questions as Élise about Simon's death and promises to help her in her research.

-Élise and Philippe meet Stéphane Bolduc, a friend of Simon's who was not at the conventum. The restaurateur tells them that the young Dénommé had worked briefly at the family convenience store and relates an argument between Simon and his father. During the conversation, Stéphane introduced them to his wife, Maggie Poirier. In 1994, Simon's school results were in free fall. His parents were called to the school.

-Élise manages to find Nathalie, the nurse who worked at the school when Simon was a child. Nathalie tells her that Simon had a complex about his body image. Hugo announces to Elise that the house has been sold. The young woman goes there for the last time and discovers other pages of her brother's journal that she had never noticed before. Mylène is discouraged by Élise's quest which seems to turn into an obsession.

-In 1994, a camping activity in the forest organized by Philippe seems to have gone wrong. These events could hold the key to the enigma of Simon's death. To try to understand what happened, Élise meets up with Jonathan Forget, a man who is quite disturbed, and Carl Bergeron (Berge), who were both part of the youth group. She also discusses it with Philippe, whom she begins to doubt.

-Philippe is worried about Élise, who is obsessed with her quest. He visits Lorraine, who shares his apprehensions. She tells him that on the anniversary of Simon's death, she will visit his grave with Elise. She invites the bishop to join them. Elise tries to convince Jonathan to see his mother, Diane, again. Jonathan insists that Elise be present at the meeting. After the visit to the cemetery, Lorraine and Elise go to the river where Simon drowned.
