Discover how through tragedy and triumph this cinematographer went on to shoot "Dracula" -- one of the most famous films in motion picture history.
It is no big secret that I am an admirer of Karl Freund's work. I consider him the greatest cinematographer in history, and a fine director. He seems to be largely unknown -- no biography exists on the man, and his influences tends to be forgotten.
How accurate is this short film? I do not know. And it really does not matter, because I feel like the importance was not in capturing the production but simply in showing a brief glimpse of this great man. I would love to see a documentary on Freund, but this is the next best thing -- an attempt to show where work (Dracula) collides with life (the death of Murnau).
I hope people see this film, and I hope it sparks some level of interest in Freund's life and work. There is much more to be discovered. I would love to be the one to bring it to light, but I would be even happier if others joined in the search.
