    The Iron Pot

Creating a consistent shared universe is no small feat, especially when the groundwork hasn't been firmly established. With the DC Universe currently in flux, "Creature Commandos" is taking on the challenging role of laying some foundational pieces. While the series offers glimpses of the broader tapestry James Gunn and company aim to weave, it struggles to find a clear identity, veering between engaging character work and uneven storytelling. This show has been excellent so far, but has focused more on setting up characters, than the universe in full. Episode 5, "The Iron Pot," encapsulates this dichotomy, offering a mix of compelling moments and frustrating missteps.

This episode attempts to balance character-driven flashbacks, team dynamics, and overarching plot development, but the results are uneven. Eric Frankenstein takes center stage, with flashbacks revealing his tragic backstory. These sequences draw heavily on classic Frankenstein lore, including nods to Mary Shelley's iconic novel. While fans of the source material may appreciate these references, the flashbacks ultimately fail to deliver anything fresh or insightful. Eric's journey is one we've seen many times before, and the show's retelling doesn't add much to the narrative or his character arc. On the brighter side, the inclusion of Clayface is a highlight. His shapeshifting antics and larger-than-life personality bring much-needed levity to the episode. However, the characterization feels inconsistent, particularly when juxtaposed with the darker tone teased for his upcoming solo film. The tonal disconnect underscores the challenge of creating a cohesive shared universe while juggling disparate tones and styles. The episode's action sequences, as always, are a visual treat. Despite the animation's relatively simple design, it continues to impress with dynamic fight choreography and vibrant energy. These moments inject excitement into an episode that otherwise feels bogged down by an overstuffed narrative. However, the pacing remains a significant issue. At just over 20 minutes, the episode feels both rushed and overly padded. The central plotline gets lost amid a series of red herrings and subplots that fail to move the overarching story forward. With the main threat still unclear, the series risks alienating viewers who are eager for a more focused narrative with only a few episodes left.

"The Iron Pot" highlights both the promise and the pitfalls of "Creature Commandos." While the episode features strong animation and entertaining moments, it struggles to balance its ambitions with effective storytelling. It might yet become a vital piece of the DC Universe puzzle, but for now, it remains a work in progress.

It gets better with every episode

I can confidently say that this show is turning out to be a real masterpiece from DC studios and if this is an indicator of what the DCU will look like them I'm sold.

The mix of realism, humour, action and great story telling makes this show a pleasant watch.

The only pain is that you will have to wait a week before it airs again.

The story building is pretty amazing as well as the character development. Most of the characters have their fair share of character development with each episode and it's told in a very good way.

This episode introduced one of my favorites villans ( Clayface ) and he was fun too.
