    Season 1

The first project of the DCU !!

We get another misfit team up of The Bride, Rick Flag, Weasel. Dr Phosphorus, Mina, and the addition of Frankenstein. Amanda Waller has found a loop hole into not using humans and now she has moved onto monsters. This team is tasked with protecting a princess from a with but not all seems to be clear. We get a glimpse into each backstory and by the end we have a fitting conclusion.

It's a very good show, NORMALLY flashbacks drive me bananas but I could argue these are the best things about the show, my god has James Gunn created some of the saddest origins, specifically Weasel !!! The bride and honestly almost all are so sad!

You really do end up rooting for this team of monsters, they have a good bond even if half of the time you think they will kill each other. It's funny, it has good action, it's sad, it has twists, and a good storyline.

Hard to find something I didnt like, it is setting up the future with some nice cameos and HOPEFULLY confirming Robs Batman is NOT in the DCU that it's solo.

    8/10.

    Nina, you poor sweet soul

And that's a wrap. It surely went by so fast, and with this finale, I think it's good, but we nonetheless could've benefited from more. The main storyline ultimately proved a little underwhelming, and characters like Rick Flagg Sr. And Eric Frankenstein end up being superfluous lovestruck fools. But nonetheless, when the show works its magic, it works wonders. Nina ends up probably being the most tragic character that I've seen in a Gunn project, leading to a conclusion that I'm not sure what to make of. Overall, this finale will likely divide viewers, but it works well enough, and I'm excited to see where things go in Season 2.

Shocked by how well everything tied back in with that finale and the whole show just kept getting better

Love how much depth and charm the relationship between the creatures had they felt like fleshed out characters who all had been given mesmerising idiosyncrasies that made them feel unique and memorable; I especially loved Dr Phosphorus, Weasel and the layered Bride.

Aside from the characters I enjoyed how well the music choices complimented the characters and set pieces; it really added the tone of a scene in ways that a lot of modern media don't seem utilise (music enhances emotional moments and can help set the tone) the animation was also sharp not the greatest but definitely good -especially during action set pieces and emotional moments- it reminded me of the sharpness and the unique animation style of Archer which was a pleasant surprise.

All in all I think they did a great job all round on this animated project and I'm now looking forward to where they'll take these uniquely charming set of characters and the fantastical world at large.

When Nina is swimming underneath the Princess, it is an homage to "The Creature From the Black Lagoon" mirroring the scene where the Gillman is swimming under Kay.
    • Quotes

Nina Mazursky: [voice-over on note] Dear Daddy. I love you more than anything in the world, and I am so grateful for everything you've done for me. But I do not belong, nor have I ever, in the world of humans. I want to be free and I want to free you of the burden that I know I am. And I've always been. I love you, Daddy. You could not have been a better father. All my love, Nina.
