Khalani Simon-Barrow and Luke Speakman in Weapons (2025)

Review by Ty3D

Weapons

6/10

It's watchable but the HORROR was oversold.

I WAS SO EXCITED FOR THIS! From the first ever teaser trailer to the MARKETING like wow I was hooked! Watching it this night in IMAX was kinda disappointing read on down.

Story: At 2:17 alot of kids just run out of their house. That was all I needed to go in on and the movie delivers the mystery and intrigue very well. Once they set up the mystery you do feel like your taken on the journey of discovery. The ONLY ISSUE is horror buffs will IMMEDIATELY catch on to what's going on. Once I kinda already knew what was happening it kinda takes you out because you as the audience knows but the characters do not. Alot of pretty convenient opportunities happen in this movie as well that kinda made me raise a eye.

Horror: In my opinion they really should have committed to the scares BUT THEY DON'T. The comedy SHOULD have been REMOVED like TAKEN OUT COMPLETELY! Some genuine scares are COMPLETELY DEMOLISHED by the director wanting you to laugh. In the opening shot you get like punk rock music WHEN IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A CREEPY AMBIENCE!

Story: Multiple perspectives are shown in this movie and some are used to amazing effect. It's was creative for the first hour but again once you the audience member finds out what the threat is your kinda just watching it unfold waiting for the characters to catch up.

Overall I didn't hate the film and I enjoyed it so much more then barbarians but that wasn't ever a high bar to me. THE MARKETING OVERSOLD THE SCARES and they turned the scariest moments into comedy. I couldn't shake the feeling those who wait for streaming will Definitely enjoy it alot more in their houses. Losing those scares kinda makes it your preference if you pay to see it on the big screen or not.
