Fox has given an early, 22-episode Season 2 renewal to breakout freshman medical drama Doc, starring Molly Parker.

This is a rare full-season order of that size in the new broadcast era where seasons often consist of 13-18 episodes. The last Fox drama to produce 22 episodes was the network’s previous medical show, The Resident, which delivered 23 during the 2021-22 season.

What makes Doc‘s pickup size even more unusual is that it is given to a series that launched in midseason. As they only air for a couple of months, these freshmen have smaller orders, between eight and 13 episodes. (Doc‘s was 10.) That is not considered fully adequate for a show to prove itself, so midseason newbies typically receive a 13-episode Season 2 renewal that could be extended with additional episodes if the series returns strong in the fall. We're closing in on spring, which means the time of year TV networks start prepping for the fall season. As always, there's a worry about shows "on the bubble" while others are safer.

NCIS: Sydney Season 3 is on the way!

CBS announced the exciting news and revealed that nine more shows were picked up for next year.

This was a surprising revelation. NCIS: Sydney Season 2 recently debuted on Friday nights.

We are only a few episodes into the new season, but CBS felt confident in a renewal way ahead of time.

The new spin-off show debuted last year and is filmed entirely in Australia.

NCIS: Sydney focuses on a joint task force between U.S. NCIS agents and the Australian Federal Police (Afp). They work on international cases that surface Down Under.

The special team is led by NCIS Special Agent Michelle Mackey and her 2Ic Afp counterpart, Sergeant Jim “Jd” Dempsey.

CBS announced Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage has been renewed for season 2 for the 2025-2026 TV season! This update means we'll get more of the Cooper/McCallister dynamics we all came to love from the comedy.

Season 1 has been met with much fanfare, as the gears shifted the focus off Sheldon Cooper and onto his older brother, Georgie, as he quickly becomes a married man with a family. The running joke is the age gap between him and Mandy, but if you truly analyze the narrative, it's not so much of a difference as Georgie's growing maturity has been prominent in each episode.

According to a press release from CBS, viewership reached 12.9% across multiple platforms, including Paramount+. The number is impressive for a broadcast show, and the first season of Georgie and Mandy is only halfway finished.

CBS has made a big decision on Elsbeth. Will the quirky investigator be back solving crimes for season 3?

Elsbeth was one of the bigger TV surprises of 2024. On paper it sounded like a weird idea: Carrie Preston reprising her Emmy-winning role from The Good Wife and The Good Fight as eccentric attorney Elsbeth Tascioni. Rather than have it be a legal dramedy, the series is instead a crime procedural of Elsbeth working with the NYPD to solve murders.

While ordered in May 2023, the series was put off due to the Hollywood strikes of that year. It premiered (appropriately) on Leap Day 2024 and was a quick success. The series did connect with viewers, mostly thanks to Preston’s delightful performance. It earned a second season renewal which premiered in fall 2024.

However, forever the M&a faithful, Dhan doesn’t just say, “Turn your pain into purpose,” he embodies it. It’s not a mantra for him so much as a lifestyle and code he lives by, so fittingly, he’s the one to remind Gabi that M&a is their penance.

As far as Elsbeth episodes, this one hit all the right marks with a bit of drama, a fistful of funny, and a pinch of intrigue right there at the end.

For a show about murder, it sure does manage to deliver a lot of good news and keep things surprisingly upbeat.

Granted, the killers of Elsbeth are not exactly genius masterminds. Still, Larry takes the cake with more rookie mistakes than anyone with...

That was by far the most intense roller coaster of emotions Matlock has ever put audiences through. It was amazing in every possible way.

Awards season may be over, but someone over at the Primetime Emmys better watch this episode and take note. I’m still shaking from those last few seconds.

Before we get to how Matlock is defining peak broadcast TV, we have to give it up to Kathy Bates and the entire cast. The chemistry in “This is That Moment” was unreal.

The new drama has succeeded on Monday nights, earning it an early renewal from the network.

This is huge news for the NCISverse, and it speaks to the writing that a prequel show could find success.

NCIS: Origins follows a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Austin Stowell) in 1991.

The stories from this new show take place years before the NCIS series premiere aired in 2003.

Mark Harmon narrates the new show (Gibbs on NCIS), which is set in the fledgling NCIS Camp Pendleton. The team is led by NCIS legend Mike Franks (Kyle Schmid). We already know Gibbs and Franks have become great friends.

The new show also gives the writers excuses to tell fresh stories about Gibbs while interweaving what we already know about his past.

Yes, nine shows have been renewed for the 2025–2026 TV season. Some of these renewals are not a surprise at all. They are strong shows that have some great ratings. However, there are some surprises in shows that are missing from the list, leaving us wonderings what’s going on.

It’s not unusual for CBS to renew shows in bulk. The majority on this list are scripted shows, with one show landing a two-season renewal order.

Ghosts has two more seasons (at least!)

CBS announced today that it has renewed nine additional series for the 2025-2026 broadcast season. The renewed CBS Original series include #1 entertainment series Tracker, #1 comedy Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, #1 new unscripted series Hollywood Squares, plus Elsbeth, Fire Country, NCIS, NCIS: Origins and NCIS: Sydney.

Additionally, CBS has ordered two more seasons of the hit comedy Ghosts, taking the series through the 2026-2027 season.

Previous series orders for the 2025-2026 season include the #1 new series Matlock, starring Kathy Bates; Sheriff Country, the new drama expanding the universe of the hit series Fire Country, starring Morena Baccarin; new police drama Boston Blue (working title) starring Donnie Wahlberg as his Blue Bloods character Danny Reagan; The Road, a singing competition series from executive producers Blake Shelton and Taylor Sheridan; and hit reality series Survivor and The Amazing Race.

The mystery surrounding the death of the president and the construction of a strange underground city is about to extend for another year: Hulu has renewed Paradise for a second season.

The Hulu Original drama series is from 20th Television and stars Sterling K. Brown (This is Us) as Secret Service Agent Xavier Collins. The Dan Fogelman drama is set in a “serene community inhabited by some of the world’s most prominent individuals. But this tranquility explodes when a shocking murder occurs, and a high-stakes investigation unfolds.”

Paradise kicked off with 7M views in its first week across Hulu in the U.S. and Disney+ internationally. The streamer reports that preliminary data from Nielsen projects the show to hit the Streaming Top 10 Originals chart for the week of Jan 27 – Feb 2.

The series also stars James Marsden, Julianne Nicholson, Sarah Shahi, Nicole Brydon Bloom, Aliyah Mastin and Percy Daggs IV.

Hollywood Squares will return for another go-round. Just ahead of its Season 1 finale, CBS announced Thursday it has renewed the popular revival series for a second season.

The reboot has drawn solid ratings in its freshman season. It’s estimated to deliver 5.4 million viewers in live plus 35 days of multi-platform viewing, based on its season-to-date live plus 7 average.

It was picked up today along with CBS dramas Tracker, Fire Country, Elsbeth, NCIS, NCIS: Origins and NCIS: Sydney and comedies Ghosts, which received a two-season renewal, and Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, renewed for Season 2.

The network already gave a full-season order to Matlock, and has announced it has ordered the Fire Country spinoff Sheriff Country with Morena Baccarin and the Blue Bloods spinoff Boston Blue with Donnie Wahlberg.

The original FBI series was formerly renewed through the 2026-2027 broadcast season. No word yet on the status of FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International, as well The Equalizer and Watson.

CBS has also renewed all three NCIS series — the original, NCIS: Origins and NCIS: Sydney — along with Elsbeth, Fire Country, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, Hollywood Squares and Tracker for 2025-26.

The early vote of confidence for the two shows is not surprising as they are CBS’ highest rated comedy series. They have been picked up today along with other CBS strong performers on the drama side, Tracker, Fire Country, Elsbeth, NCIS, NCIS: Origins and NCIS: Sydney as well as the recently launched Hollywood Squares reboot.

Of the bunch, the Young Sheldon spinoff Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage is second only to Tracker in Live+35 Days multi-platform viewership (12.9 million), with Ghosts close behind at 11 million, up 9% from last season.

These numbers represent an encouraging sign for the future, as the broadcast networks are struggling to remain competitive.

The big question will be whether it remains on the night next season or if the show’s strong digital footprint compels the network to move it to a night with more people watching TV.

It may well be a show that could benefit from that, but we should have more clarity in the next few months when NBC presents its schedule to advertisers.

Adam Brooks is on board to both write and direct the project. The Canadian screenwriter and director is no stranger to the romantic comedy space, having written or directed (or both) titles like Definitely, Maybe, and Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, plus the Netflix Original movie Nappily Ever After, released in 2018.

This isn’t the first time The Lift List has been attempted to be brought to the big screen. Ahead of the book’s release in 2013, Fox 2000 optioned the film rights for the novel, with Hutch Parker set to produce.

Summer is prime golf season, and Owen Wilson is teeing off on Apple TV+ this June.
