The life support was failing on the Ark and could not contain anymore people. Such actions are punishable by death. We learn about this when Octavia was born, she was always hidden from the populace by her mother and her brother. Eventually she was discovered and locked away, and her mother was floated, and Bellamy was stripped of his guard uniform.
It's a form of execution. Anyone sentenced to death are thrown out into space, where they suffocate.
Technically, there were 101 that landed, Bellamy Blake was smuggled onto the pod after making an attempt on Jaha's life. 102 if you count Raven using an old escape pod. 4 delinquents are confirmed alive plus Bellamy and Raven. Most of them are either dead or unaccounted for.
The Life Support on the Ark was on it's last legs. The council wanted to know if the Earth was still inhabitable after the nuclear holocaust that occurred 97 years prior to their departure. The 100 were sentenced to death, however, they were thrown into a pod and exiled to Earth as a "second chance" from Jaha.
Sky people. Those who fell from the sky. Some refer to them as Skaikru.
It's their version of the F-Bomb.
Adults who violated the rules of the Ark were forced into an airlock, where they were floated into space.
Trigedasleng- a language adopted by the Grounders after the fallout. Trikru created the tongue. It is considered a language of the forest. There is no writing for the language.
