    Biopics rarely succeed

Biopics rarely succeed, specially when trying to put a whole long life and career into a 2 hour movie. It's not possible.

Technically the film is 'well done' but has no character. So many things nags in this movie are 'well done', but again, no charaer cter no depth. The lead actor is just ok, but again, at the same time bland. Aznavour was not a tall man, 5ft4 is mentioned in the film, probably he was even shorter, so maybe one would choose an actor in a somewhat similar height range...?

Edith Piaf's relationship with Aznavour comes over extremely bland and boring, all his wives show no character - mostly all decoration.

Why as it so important to point out more than once that he was not Jewish. I don't care, but somebody thought it is.

We learn nothing about how he became sa great composer..just by deciding to be one?

Anyway that all has to fall wayside when cramming a bio into a biopic.

A Perfect Biopic for all the fans

Honestly I know a little bit the old singer " Charles Aznavour " cause in france in my country it's a legend but I Donnie completely his background well... I know the all essentiels informations about him thanks to this movie and his story it's very passionate thanks to this nice biopic !!!!

First to all rules from a good biopic was respect ! This movie it's very a tribute for him-self and his fans and in the same time explain his story. For me on these points the movie it's succeed !!! And the script it's very passionate you know a lot about him especially when you don't know his story like me ... and you feel not boring during the process of script even if at times it's a little less gripping but for me the story telling it's succeed !!!!

The performance from the main character it's crazy he played very well and same thing for the rest of the cast !!!

The director makes a good job too, you felt very in old times from the set background, the colors using in the shoot's....

And the rest of works from people who work in shadows, the crew thanks to them, The costumes were really well done too !!!

This movie it's very a good movie and biopic for all fans who loves Charles Aznavour and people like me who doesn't know before his story and try to get into...

Not masterpiece biopic but a very good one, as said this movie its completely a Tribute !!!!

    Very informative and enjoyable biopic

I enjoyed the film tremendously. The main actor, Tahar Rahim, who was fabulous in the movie The Prophet, managed to convey well Charles Aznavour's personality, voice, and mannerisms, in a very nuanced and subtle interpretation, after reportedly taking singing and piano lessons and undergoing three daily hours of makeup during the shooting. The film depicted well the obstacles that Aznavour had to overcome in his life and his sometimes difficult relationships with his loved ones. Born of Armenian immigrants, he was not particularly handsome, being a short man with a raspy, sometimes nasal voice. At first, he sang in duo with Pierre Roche and then met famous French singer Edith Piaf and worked for her in various roles. He learned a lot from her but had to leave at some point to pursue a solo career. He managed to reach the top with sheer determination, energy and hard work, at the price of tremendous familial sacrifices. It was very pleasurable to hear all along so many hit songs he wrote (He wrote more than a thousand songs, either for himself or for other artists) and I think the film succeeds in showing his perfectionism and creative process, the use of rhythm for instance regarding jazzy songs that became enormous hits.

    Great musical

Great movie, well made, the story is very well presented and the cast is fantastic, it was a really emotional movie.

The story shows the life of a famous composer, singer, musician Charles Aznavour. There was a bit of everything, from his family life, his relations with famous singers and composers to his personal career going all the way to New York.

I was very impressed with the cinematic elements of the film, the angles, the colours, the effects, the director definitely knew what he was doing.

I would like to recommend this movie to everyone who likes the french "chanson" and the french culture!

    Bon lecture!

    Outstanding!

Solid story, amazing camera work, stellar performance!

The film portrays the humble childhood of the artist Charles Aznavour and his rise to the sublime fame which he worked for really hard. All the technical aspects of the film such as directing and casting, camerawork and cinematography, audio and editing were pleasantly satisfying and are done according to good old classic traditions, which is not the case with the new films nowadays. I imagine this film will appeal to culturally and artistically aware audiences in particular.

Overall a very successful project, worthy of portraying the legendary artist Charles Aznavour.

Many of the audiences left the theatre with tears of nostalgia in their eyes. We watched it at the cinema too and now I'm buying the DVD!
