REFRESHING SURREALIST STORY OF MODERN LOVES... IN THE PAST TENSE
I've seen 2 American short films in such a short time... and both are premieres and wow. I've had to reflect on what I've seen because they are short films... in capital letters.
We have a simple but direct story set in the early 2000s where two boys meet in a different, almost atypical way. At first it seems like a poem from my latam, at times it takes you to a fantastic world where surrealism rules and commands all the action in a pleasant and surprisingly fluid way! I didn't expect this in a film from the USA (its scene is the world standard in many things, sadly not always in a positive way) and wow it surprised me because together with the first short I saw (Flowers - USA 2024) they are little gems of the independent scene in the USA; they are a diamond in the rough.
The similarities with that short are obvious to me, as if in parallel (or intentionally) stories were made with parallels not common in the USA (at least for these times) making it even more interesting to watch, at least for the most demanding viewers.
Direction, production and acting incredibly good!! Despite the fact that this film was made on a very tight budget (its producer/writer confessed that they had to raise money online) they made it pass as a production with more resources... and the photography is beautiful and pleasant, which goes in accordance with the excessive flow of the plot. As if it were the same, on point at every moment.
