Animal attack movies have been quite a lucrative genre for a very long time. Obviously, Jaws is the beginning and the end of the conversation but there’s so much more. Grizzlies, whales, dogs, you name it have been the focal point of horror films and will continue to be there with things like Cocaine Bear, The Meg 2, and others infiltrating theaters on a yearly basis. Most of these, of course, are fictional accounts like Stephen King giving us Cujo or any number of other on-screen animals gone wild. There are, however, the rare account that is based on a true story and today is one of those cases. Alligators and crocodiles...

Timothy Lee on location in ‘Mystery Road.’
After serving as a script editor on three seasons of House Husbands and writing episodes of Rush and Serangoon Road, Timothy Lee’s career has gone up a couple of gears.
Lee, who graduated from Aftrs in 2006, modestly credits his progression in part to the talent drain which has resulted in numerous Aussie writers plying their trade in the Us and the UK.
“That has created opportunities for the next generation of writers,” says Lee, who got his start as a script assistant/researcher on Rescue Special Ops after securing an Australian Writers’ Guild internship with Southern Star, mentored by Sarah Smith.
That led to writing episodes of the Nine Network drama and the fourth season of Network Ten’s cop show Rush. Working on Playmaker Media’s House Husbands, he reflects, “was good for my craft but not so good for my profile.

Noah Taylor and Yael Stone (and soundie) on set. (Photo: Sean O'Reilly)
An old shed on Glebe Island wharf, littered with boat-building machinery and tools, sets the tone for one of the dramatic final scenes of Sbs.s new four-part series, Deep Water, starring Noah Taylor and Yael Stone..
Stone and Taylor play detectives investigating a brutal murder case which appears to be connected to the real-life gay hate crimes that swept through Sydney in the .80s and .90s.
But it was a more recent murder which spurred Blackfella Films. producers Darren Dale and Miranda Dear to get the series moving.
Dear and Dale, coincidentally were both in Potts Point, Sydney, when a particularly violent murder took place.

A new horror series is getting ready to make its way to the Far East via HBO Asia, and we have your first details right here faster than you can say "Grace." Well... honestly, you did say that pretty quickly, but we were a bit faster. Doesn't matter though as everyone wins.
According to Variety, HBO Asia is to kick off its second original production with “Grace,” a contemporary horror mini-series. Production begins next week in association with Singapore-based producer Infocus Asia and with the financial support of Singapore’s Media Development Authority.
The four-part hour-long horror mini-series in English and Mandarin is about a father’s mistake which condemns his family to unspeakable horror. Set in present day urban Asia, “Grace” examines the Asian concepts of family, sacrifice, and vengeance.
It will be directed by Tony Tilse, who co-directed the 10-part 1960s detective series “Serangoon Road,” which last year...

It has been a full decade since TV's "Farscape" franchise came to a close with "The Peacekeeper Wars" mini-series.
Now, Inside Film reports that screenwriter Justin Monjo has worked on a script for a "Farscape" spinoff movie to be directed by the show's former executive producer Brian Henson. Henson also helmed the 'Peacekeeper' mini-series.
Monjo worked on the series back in the day and the scribe has scored good notices in Australia lately for his script work on the recent Inxs mini-series "Never Tear Us Apart" along with the 1960s Singapore-set drama "Serangoon Road".
The interview was to announce "Mongo," a new HBO series he's developing based on George C. Chesbro's detective novel series that could star Peter Dinklage.
But talk quickly turned to "Farscape" and his film script which, if it were to go forward, would likely be a telemovie. There's also a synopsis:

Game of Thrones. Peter Dinklage is in talks to star in the pilot for an HBO series scripted by Sydney-based Justin Monjo and produced by Ben Stiller.s Red Hour Films.
The prolific Monjo is also writing the screenplay for Farscape, a movie spin-off of the sci-fi series that ran on the Nine Network and the Sci-Fi Channel in the Us, for Jim Henson Productions, to be directed by Brian Henson.
Dinklage would play a dwarf detective in The Beasts of Valhalla, based on a series of novels by the late George C. Chesbro. Monjo read the books years ago but could not think of an actor who was right for the role of the sleuth named Mongo until he saw Dinklage in Game of Thrones.
.It.s a grounded sci-fi series,. says Monjo, who flies to New York next month to discuss the project with Dinklage, with whom he has corresponded.

If the 3rd annual Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards could be categorised as a David vs Goliath battle between The Rocket and The Great Gatsby, Goliath is the hands-down winner.
Baz Luhrmann.s opulent romantic drama won six awards tonight, for best film, director, adapted screenplay, lead actor Leonardo DiCaprio, supporting actor Joel Edgerton and supporting actress Elizabeth Debicki.
That.s in addition to the six awards in craft categories plus the Aacta award for outstanding achievement in visual effects bestowed on Luhrmann.s film on Tuesday.
Kim Mordaunt's The Rocket, which had 12 nominations versus 14 for Gatsby, had to be content with just one trophy, for Mordaunt.s original screenplay.
The outcome is likely to reignite the debate about the near-impossibility of comparing a lavishly-mounted 3D film financed by Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow Pictures, which cost $160 million, with an independently-funded Lao-set film from a first-time director budgeted at about $2 million.

HBO Asia.s first original co-production with ABC TV, Serangoon Road, promises to be one of the biggest mini-series to hit Australia, although recreating the action-packed streets of 1960s Singapore came at a steep price.
Production was shut down for several weeks when a stunt involving lead Australian actor Don Hany went horribly wrong.
.He was going too fast and he grabbed the guy too high and missed the mat and went onto the cement and dislocated his arm... the tendon ripped off and he chipped the bone,. director Peter Andrikidis says..
.That was in Indonesia so we had to race him to hospital in Singapore, obviously to get him on the ferry. So we were shut down for about two months until he got better because it.s a big action series . there.s quite a bit of action in it..
