And the deception is in the fact that this is an Israeli film and not from Palestine. The family is an Israeli Palestinian one. The phone messages are in Hebrew not Arabic.

I found it not credible. In reality, the closeted young guy would have been attending a Mossad office, not the office of another closeted man. The reactions of the brother and the father were not true to life either. There would have been more shouting, more despair and probably a complete rejection.

And why did they all dress in black for the subsequent meal? I have groped for the symbolism here but cannot, for the life of me, work out what it is. Are they mourning the death of the person they knew to be replaced by this new gay one? Did they do an honour killing? It simply doesn't work for me. I don't find either possibility satisfactory.

I didn't find the acting particularly stunning either. It seemed rather stilted. All in all, not a brilliant experience.

Simplicity. This define Mlukhiye, a short film about a young man living between the homosexual impulse and the relation with his father and brother.

A lie, a not so expected date in an office, the fear and the confession to beloved ones, their reactions , his frustration.

The dinner scenes opens and closed the film and in each occasion conquers new significations, defining the status of young man who remains prisoner of the two men from his life, not ignoring his deep vulnerability.

Few nice scenes, well crafted tension and a story so Palestinian than it has nuances of universal portrait of ingrate condition.
