I watched Within The Pines on a Prime hire and had previously heard nothing about it. The story is simple, and engaging. It is shot beautifully in the stifling disorientation of a pine forest, and the sound is a feature, adding an uneasiness to the images and story. The use of silence really ramps up tension well. The film doesn't bog you down in establishing characters or situation, beyond what is needed, I would have like the night scenes to be a little darker lit, as the obvious presence of bright lighting indicates a nearby light source, that wouldn't be present in a dark pine forest at night and the light wasn't consistent with "moon light" , but this is minor and the tension is strong throughout all the night scenes. The final confrontation is strong and the ending is very good, no spoilers ! I would give Within the Pines 4/5 and I wanted it to continue. Especially in light of the final shot and its implications. Well done .
