The first scene in the jury room, during selection, mirrors almost word for word the same scene in '12 Angry Men' (1957). The older gentleman eye witness explains why he was more than happy to assist the police in identifying the alleged killer -- stating that it was nice to be "needed" again. In '12 Angry Men' (1957), the elderly Juror #9 explains that he believes the senior citizen testifying to having seen the murderer escape the crime scene was mistaken, and that he likely testified because it felt nice to be "needed" again.

Rowdy's Hideaway bar is central to the plot. Rowdy was Clint Eastwood's character in his very early days playing a cowboy in 'Rawhide'.

The film is partially inspired by this 1963 episode of 'The Alfred Hitchcock Hour' entitled 'The Star Juror' which starred Dean Jagger (the guilty juror) and Will Hutchins (the wrongfully accused): After killing a woman, a man is chosen to be a juror for the trial of the man accused of her murder.
