End of the Beginning

"I wouldn't miss what's coming for the world"

But this final season had a lot of misses. To recap this series, Season 1 was a sort of game changer and a really solid season. It was weird, strange yet interesting season with a strong plot. Season 2 was a strong sequel to season 1. It still has the same weird setting yet this time, they were scattered to different times from the past. Season 3 first ep was good and it went downhill after that well until the last ep. It still has its good scenes and memorable ones. That cliffhanger made me want more.

Season 4 is the epitome of how a once good series can end badly if it's not properly taken care of. First episodes were good however it went all to trash after that scene from episode 5. It was an uncomfortable plot twist and really ruined character development. Season 4 was supposedly a good ending to a once beloved series but I guess the real ending was from Season 3. Season 4 still haven't answered a lot of unanswered questions from past seasons and yet gave bad endings to our beloved characters.

This season started out mediocre and kept getting worse. You'd think with the 2 years they had us wait, and the fact that the series was ending, they really could have done anything, and actually made it compelling. Given that this season was supposed to be send off for the characters, they could have ended it strong. They didn't. I feel like this season was rushed, phoned in, and just disappointing. The writing wasn't very good, and they made some odd choices. The fact that this was the only season that was just 6 episodes instead of 10, was the first indication that they didn't have the passion the for the show they once had back when they made the first season. It feels like they just wanted to end it quickly, and you'd think with a shorter season, they weren't going to waste time with unnecessary plot threads, but they did. Nothing really mattered. Most of the storylines in this season were of no consequence other than poorly manufacturing tension, but none of it added much to the overall story. They used to have high stakes, interesting villains, and the action felt like it moved the story forward. That is not the case with the final season. The villains were not compelling like in other seasons. Even the addition of Nick Offerman, who is usually great, was just weak. The ratings of each episode declining here as the season progressed should tell you that most others also felt the same way. What a letdown!

No spoilers here. I think the show deserved better. I can feel the team did their best, but didn't get what they needed to make it, you know actually good. There's a lot to love in the show, even in the mediocre last season, but the show couldn't live up to it's own idea's. The finale and by extension the last season feels like they made it with a gun to their heads. I love the train station thing, the family stuff is all great. It feels just a bit too paper mache, very cheap and small. Not all of it mind you, some sets are beautiful, but when it really counts the show lacks the believability I felt with the first 2 seasons. It needed more layers, more episodes, more unique storylines to satisfyingly end it. As it is the final season feels like a skeleton with barely any meat on it.

I'm glad for only six episodes. I kept watching because of my investment had some decent result. This is just a rambling, convoluted mess. The characters have become unpleasant and selfish. The final explanation is cruel and senseless. The business about not being remembered is the fate of all of us considering time and what it does. Anyway, after all the hoopla over the Cleanse, something creative could have been done to maintain the interactions among the characters. So we get this sappy, bucolic thing at the end, as people play Frisbee and frolic in a park. It seems utterly anticlimactic to me. It's the dullness of everyday life. I'm glad, however, that this is the end of all this.

The ending episode just leaves the gaping plot holes as they are.

I found it dumb to add the move of replacing a couple of misguided villains with a single villain whose goal is exactly the same, but motivation makes no sense, being a variation of "Everyone is going to die, eventually, so I will kill you now because I am so righteous" or "if you live forever, the chance of you getting cancer gets pretty much 100%, so let's get the cancer now and don't cure it!".

The villain change neither affected the story, nor it was even logical. You could have just removed that plot line and nothing would effectively change except there'd be less cringe.

The end-disaster was also lame. Something advertised as a massive cataclysm with the events previous to the last episode reinforcing that point, turned out to be a an ordinary cheap enemy straight from 80s.

The series-closing logic also makes no sense. "You need to destroy all X everywhere, or bad will happen." Except we are told that it has to be done in all the alternative timelines, and we are explicitly shown that it did not happen in the alternative timelines, regardless of the actions of the heroes. Yet it got fixed anyway just because, huh?

I agree with the ending, but the taken actions would not lead to it. It looked like someone had failed, but you still count it as "pass" because you are too tired to care.
