I came here to read the reviews after I have just seen the film, just to make sure that I hadn't missed something profound that had passed me by. There was only 1 other review and so I felt compelled to write something.
I don't see the point to this film at all. There's no real story, I don't care about the characters at all, and it's a little disjointed. It contains some flashbacks (I think?) but they are not signposted well enough to recognise them as such, which just adds to the disjointed nature.
If you watch the trailer and then think "I'm not really sure what it's about" then you hit the nail on the head. It doesn't get any better having seen it. You constantly think (hope) that something really significant and surprising is about to happen to advance the story and add some sort of jeopardy or drama, but it never does.
Fundamentally, it's about the relationship between a daughter who leaves her (possibly abusive?) husband and who abandons her daughter to return home to her mother, never knowing her mother is ill. We never find out what her husband did or didn't do, or how her daughter really felt about it, or much about her past relationship with her mother. We kinda get to learn why her mother hides her illness and had lied to her daughter about other things, but by that point I had passed caring. If this had been on the TV, I'd have switched off half way through.
This is one of the worst films I have seen for years, and for context I go to the cinema about 30 times a year. It's not "bad" as such it's just, well, nothing worthwhile.
