Forty seven days with Jesus delivers a message to everyone, religious or not. It is a family friendly, feel good movie, that shares a story I think everyone can relate to in some way. A story of marital and family hardships followed by forgiveness and met with love the whole way through. Its soft approach makes it suitable for all ages. I am not a musical type of person but once I put that to the side and really just focused on the message , I started to appreciate it more. Although the message is suitable for all ages, it doesn't mean the message from the Bible is sugar coated. I believe it was portrayed genuinely and I appreciated the parts where it showed perfection ceases to exist in modern day and in the biblical times.
Was expecting more from this story honestly, based on the name of it. The plot of this movie I liked. But I feel the story of Easter was downplayed and ruined by making it a musical. I didn't feel any emotional attachment to the characters or Jesus to be honest. The Easter story parts felt hokey and like what was happening wasn't important. The main storyline was realistic and probably goes on a lot in families. I thought they could have done better. Want to see The Ark and the Darkness next week. Hoping it is much better. It will probably decide if I see anymore shows from this company. Time will tell.
Found this movie on instagram and saw that they had Yoshi and Catherine from the Chosen. It wasn't until the opening credits did I realize that this IS NOT an Angel studios production. I was a little taken back but was super surprised that there are other independent production companies making good faith based films. The musical portions felt very grounded and I like how it was more serious than Jesus Christ Superstar. My family and I enjoyed it and I especially liked how they jumped back and forth from a real christian family to the Easter story. My kids latched onto the characters and it made it easy to answer all their questions after the movie. It would make a great tool to introduce the Easter story! Happy I got to see this film and I'm excited to see more from this company!
I really wanted to like this film. I'm a HUGE fan of "The Chosen" and have enjoyed recent "Christian-themed" movies like "Jesus Revolution", "The Shift and "His Only Son". I also like Yoshi Barrigas, who played the disciple Phillip for 2 seasons of "The Chosen". Alas, I wish he'd just stayed with "The Chosen". The plot of this film was more formulaic than even the corniest Hallmark Christmas movies, the dialog was wooden, and I'm sorry, but the musical numbers were really insufferable (and I love and have seen the musical "Jesus Christ Superstar" more times than I can count). Barrigas did the best he could with a fairly annoying character, but yikes. It's been a long time since I have been THIS disappointed in a film.
The movie was charming and positive with a heartfelt message that really resonated and embodied the love, forgiveness, and benevolence of Jesus without being preachy. The juxtaposition of a family in crisis coupled with the story of Easter plus high quality production and music(al) elements made me feel my full range of emotions and I wasn't expecting to like this movie as much as I did. I laughed; I teared up; I left with my heart more full. I saw myself in this movie and was reminded of the parts of Christianity (Jesus and his unconditional love) that I love and don't see everyday. This movie wasn't about virtue signaling and deeply impacted me.
The actors all did a great job. The costumes were wonderful. The songs and music kept things light and the scenery and filmography were artfully done. 10/10 highly recommend this movie to all.
